I brought my bike down to work from Gretch's yesterday so I could ride home last night and back to work this morning before chickng it in the boot to head back tonight. It's about 7 miles from my place in Uxbridge to work at Heathrow and I've done the ride a fair few times on the MTB, but not for a while.

I really noticed the difference being clipped in! Bloody hell. If I'm honest I didn't particularly enjoy the ride home last night, was hectic and it was still only the 4th time I've ridden the Boardman so I'm not as comfortable on it as my Msisle. I think it's the fact I'm used to being able to bunny hop up the kerb etc. when the need arises on the MTB.

This morning was much nicer, a lot quieter and generally very enjoyable smile

Now I have my Edge 500 I've obviously got some more accurate data than Cyclemeter so just wondered if those who commute regulary could take a look and let me know how you think I'm doing?

Date: 7th July 8th July

Time: 26:20:27 24:37:19

Dist: 7.18m 7.08m

Speed
Av/Max: 16.4/26.0mph 17.2/26.4mph

HR
Av/Max: 154/163bpm 153/162bpm

RPM
AV/Max: 84/143rpm 88/136rpm

I appreciate only doing the return journey once doesn't really give a great idea but would like to see how I compare to those commuting regularly.

I seem to recall the quickest I ever managed on the MTB was around 40 mins.

I've been commuting for 14 months now on a old MB with slicks. It's a 15 mile round trip and I average just over 14mph. I was probably averaging 12-13mph when I started off.

The best I have ever done on the way in (slightly downhill and going absolutely banzai) was in the high 27's. I usually do in in the 28's/29's or low 30's. In the way back I'm typically doing it four or five minutes slower (that gradiant again).

So your average speed sounds fine and will no doubt creep up over the next few weeks.
