Top Gear Vs Pistonheads, the challenge.
Discussion
I have to say, I really enjoyed the £5K track car challenge on the last episode of Top Gear.
However, I'd like to see the 3 presenters have a forth 'man' to compete against.
Us.
There is such a wealth of knowledge (amongst the bulls
t) on here, that I'm sure we could beat the Top Gear boys hands down.
So what kind of challenges do the PH army think we could beat them at?
I'll start the ball rolling.
A top speed / Fastest lap, most distance covered for £100 of fuel challenge. A budget of £5K to buy the car(s) needed to complete the challenge. Note you can use different cars for each challenge, but the maximum budget is still £5K total.

Don't forget their challenge was specifically to buy a 4 door saloon car that could be taken on track days and also take the kids to school in. So they wouldn't have looked at or considered buying anything else.A top speed / Fastest lap, most distance covered for £100 of fuel challenge. So to match them it has to be another 4 door car for less than £5k that could take the kids to school in the morning and track day in the afternoon.

Top speed, some ragged GT4 for £2K.
Fuel economy, Pug 205 d.
The rules of the challenge included that it had to be a four door saloon. Fuel economy, Pug 205 d.
The obvious examples that they missed were a knackered Evo V or a better condition Evo IV or similar age Subaru WRX STD.
Given the rules of the challenge and ignoring the (customary) ludicrous points system , Hammond's M3 was pretty much spot on.
Evo or WRX, here's a couple.

There are loads of challenges left. You could have:
second hand military vehicles. An old Ferret armoured car against a Scorpion against something else to see which is best at coping with City centre parking, commuting, etc
The best hot hatch. Include 205gti, Golf, maybe Clio etc etc. plenty to choose from (and which ever they choose, there will always be someone here saying they should have bought xxx)
Luxo-barge. Sort of SOTW- XJ40, 7 series, maybe the Audi V8 or a merc or an early lexus/ old Bentley. See who can do some challenges inclduing limo service.
Almost every car you can think of you could challenge it against its peers. Even 4x4, people carriers...

Anyway they were random choices from Autotrader, not specifically posted because they were imports.
