Standard Head Unit?

What's the Alpine unit as standard, or like most things did they change all the time?

I assume there's no iPod in type connection as standard?

Mostly Pioneer DEH something or other on the earlier T-cars, then something else later. I don't think any had outputs. Mine has a Sony Bluetooth headunit which works brilliantly (also does Bluetooth music and has a USB port/RJ Jack on the front). You can even use the phone as long as you're not going too fast (why does it always ring when at velocity? ).

I bought a cable that connects to the ibus with a 3.5mm jack on the other end to plug my MP3 in. Works a treat (when I have it on)

I've got a pioneer in mine too but its not working all that well, if i buy a new pioneer head unit will in plug straight in? Or can someone recommend another make to put in and if so do you have to buy a wiring harness?

Did this twice - from a 2000-ish DEH2300 something or other to a DEH-P77MP to a DEH-P88RS. Plug and play - both times I didn't even swap the radio cage.

Pioneer in our 05 plate; typical of TVR to fit whatever happened to be on the shelf!

Mine's Alpine; no idea if you can jack an iPod into it. I assume not as there are no jack leads, ad they didn't say at the factory when I bought it.

Mind you, doesn't mean anything though.... I guess they would have just slotted whatever unit was available in.

I bought one of these mate as I have an MP3 player. Does not charge it but I didn't need it to and all control is through the MP3 player not the head unit except volume.

You will need to turn on the AUX input through the menu on the head unit and I named mine so it displays MP3 PLAY (better than AUX). If you need the user manual for the head unit drop me a message with your email and I will send you an electronic copy.

Just a quick post to say thanks to Lee; got the adaptor the other day and it works a treat! I paired it with an USB power adaptor from Maplin and I'm now set for those long drives! No need to take a CD Case now!

Thanks to Lee from me as well! Just ordered - what a great little solution until I decide how to properly attack a head-unit / speaker upgrade.

The other I.C.E. thread is throwing up some very good ideas / builds that others have done.......decisions, decisions......!

I'm looking at an ICE upgrade right now. Thinking of utilising the unused toolkit space in the boot bulkhead to fit an 8" shallow-mount sub, with some GRP moulding to suit. Only question I have right now is where to mount the amp?! Any ideas?

Al - I was very impressed (from a post quite a while back) of an amp that was located right at the back of the passenger footwell with a false board in front of it covered in the same material as the carpet - no real loss of footroom for the passenger (5-6cm max with a slim Amp?), invisible and looks totally standard.

Other than that, if you are going to a put a sub in the little 'tyre weld' corner at the rear (as per the thread you have already enquired on about sub-size), why not locate the amp in the same area on the other side as they are both pretty much 'dead space' in the rear?

Thanks Grant, I'm looking at a couple of iterations. I'd never thought of using the 'tyre-weld' space at the corner of the boot for a sub, so if I go down that route, it leaves the toolbox storage at the rear of the boot as an ideal place for the amp. If, however, I go down the route of using the toolbox space for a shallow-mount sub, I'll now be planning to use the passenger footwell space for the amp! (Thanks!)

I was really set on using an 8" sub in the toolbox space, but having seen the other thread, it looks like a bigger sub can be used with more scope for 'Oomph'.

the best slimline amp for a small single sub (<120W rms) or some components would be a genesis profile 2 (as recommended by carl baker!) thats what i used, plus a beefier amp for some large components speakers (but they needed 150W+ per channel). The genesis p2 is only about 4cm wide!!! This was my thread...

Its nice to help people!!

I will be upgrading my stereo with a custom build (done it in various other cars in the past) but its not in the budget this year. Perhaps next.

There is plenty of space for amps etc if you look hard enough!
