Shameless appeal for funds
Discussion
Hi all,
As some of you know, my beloved sister Jane has recently been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Although it is an aggressive form of this particularly vicious disease, it has, thankfully, been caught early. It is at an early stage and the prognosis is very promising. She is being treated with Chemo, and whilst this is quite rotten, it certainly trumps the alternative with its inevitable consequence.
Jane is the person directly responsible for my involvement in God's Chosen Motorsport, and whether or not you think that is a good or bad thing, she always told me that Drag Racers were the best people in the world. This has been proved to me time and time again in the thirty odd years since she first took me 'down t'Pod'.
One of the side-effects is that all her hair is going to fall out. Now my big sis has always been keen to be in control of everything around her, and so if she is going to lose her hair, she will do it on her terms and no one else's! So, this coming Friday (9th July) she and her husband Mike are going to shave their heads to raise money for the Worthing Hospital CT Scanner appeal - at the moment they have one scanner and the waiting time is nearly two weeks, so they desperately need another to reduce the time that patients needing scans have to wait. The target of a couple of hundred quid is already passed, and my aim with this e mail is to give the appeal a push towards a thousand. This will help the Hospital towards the million they need. If you'd like to help, then you can donate online at this site...

I know times are hard at the moment, but any donation, however small, will make such a difference to the fight against this nasty, pernicious disease. What I do know is that my sister, with the help of a wonderful oncology department and some really good friends, is going to b
h-slap this little bugger into extinction.
Health warning - 126 people (and they aren't all women!) are diagnosed with breast cancer every day - make sure you check regularly for any changes and get them checked out quick!
Many thanks for your time

Done.
Having had to "trim" my partners hair last year shortly after she started her chemo for the same thing I know just how they feel.
1 in 7 women are likely to be affected by BC. thats sisters, wives, girlfriends, mum's, aunts, grandma's, cousins etc etc. and without them most of us would not be racing and in a lot of cases even surviving. everyone should donate and keep on donating.
be very lucky

Just going through this with my niece who at 34 has level 3 aggressive. She's had surgery and is now on tamoxyfen, herceptin and more radio. Whilst feeling for you all, we are doing our own thing over here to help out as there are a lot of brilliant people involved with the nursing and aftercare. It's a good cause.
I wish you all the best.
I wish you all the best.
Just a short note to thank everyone for their messages of support and donations. The shaving went well. It is actually surprisingly tricky to remove someones hair in a non-painful way, but a splendid evening was had by all. Buckets were rattled on the evening, and nearly 150 quid was raised which will be added to the fantastic total on the justgiving page, where pictures of the two egg-heads can be seen.
Louis the Lump has actually shrunk following the first bout of chemotherapy. Some say it is the fantastic advances in therapy available, others suggest good diet, exercise and positive mental attitude played a part. I, on the other hand, am sure that the sight of the present Mrs Crawford approaching with a pair of clippers scared the little bugger half to death.
What is clear is that this is far from being a solitary battle. We have had so many messages of love and support from people who have battled and defeated this terrible thing. As has been stated above, around 1 in 3 of us will be afflicted by some form of cancer in our lifetimes, and pretty much everyone has three of more female relatives. Simple maths suggests that we are all going to be affected in some way. The postings on here and the e mails we have had just from racers and fans bears this out.
Luke Bennett, you are, in so many different ways, my hero.
Many thanks again
Jon, Janey and Mike.

Jon, give her my best, tell her in no uncertain terms its HER body, her brain controls it, drink plently of juices, (buy a juicer, buy loads of nice organic fruit), go for long walks, dont ever ever think of it in bad terms, simply get on with it and get better. What kept me strong was my family and its clear she has got an absolute diamond family around her. Louis the Lump has actually shrunk following the first bout of chemotherapy. Pleased to hear the lump is shrinking, keep it up.
And what you wrote is an honour. I mean that, bottom lip wobbled the lot. Thank you.
