I've been offered a stage II exhaust for my '06 Elise 111R by Lotus Cape Town, and am tempted to have it fitted.

Is all I am getting for the expense a noisier exhaust (and how much will it annoy the missus)? Are there any performance benefits?

Thanks!

I have one on mine and I am not sure of any performance increase but it is very loud.

Very entertaining when your are burbling around - very annoying on a long motorway journey.

I absolutely loved my stage 2 when I had my first exige. When going back to an exige after a couple of years off I got a stage 2 fitted again....for about a month. Don't know why but it just didn't have the same effect and was a bit annoying tbh. It was still amazing on full chat or in tunnels, but for day to day driving it wasn't too enjoyable, drony and I was worried about being mistaken for a boyed up nova biggrin (it's not quite like that, dont worry)
Maybe it's just the age setting in, or perhaps just the honeymoon of having my first exige being over!

Give it a bash, if you don't like it then sell it on, someone will have it as I don't think there are too many around. I sold mine for £60 more than I bought it for so couldn't complain. We fitted it ourselves so didn't have any costs there either. thumbup

Very happy with my 2bular now, it's much more sedate, but fruity enough when it needs to be, and it's track friendly which is rather useful! driving

Given your location, you could probably facbricate something louder from some discarded vuvuzelas!laugh

The vuvuzela solution has been suggested already by a couple of friends. People may assume I'm being chased by a swarm of bees.

I went to the Lotus dealer this afternoon and had them fire up an Exige with the stage II exhaust already installed. It sounded meaty, and rather nice... however, I'm wondering if it's too loud and whether it will get on my t*ts after a while!

Also, they want R6500 (GBP560) for it, which I think is a little steep (but not entirely unexpected for SA). Wondering if my money would be better spent elsewhere... maybe importing a different make exhaust, the names of which I see on this forum.

Anyway. Thanks for the feedback. I'll let you know on Tuesday what I decide when I take the car in for a service!

On a slightly more serious note, I do have a 2bular 6x18 exhaust silencer which has had to have been removed from my 'liz due to an engine change. It's rudely loud when caning it (especially on the second cam) but perfectly liveable with during every day use. As it is a 2bular it is also a work of art. It hasn't been advertised yet - would that be of any interest?

lotus stage 2 sound ok, and is certainly not too noisy for daily use.

What's worth noting though is that the lotus offering is heavy, poorly made and will need replacing after 25k miles.

For me it would be 2bular.

The Stage 2 exhaust sounds nice initially, but IMHO becomes tiresome after a while because it drones so much. Also, the welds which secure the thin bracket between the tail-pipe and silencer box are prone to failure.

As stated above, an after-market exhaust from 2bular or Larini (haven't experienced the latter) would be a better option given the price you've been quoted for the Lotus item.

Hi, I've got a stage 2 exhaust on my 06 111R (was on it when I bought it).

It is OK on a daily basis but it does drone a lot when driving at a constant speed e.g. dual carriageway/motorway so I'll probably be looking to change it for a 2bular at some point in the future.
