Unspent convictions?

I apparently need some security checks doing. One of the questions is

I confirm that I do/do not have unspent convictions.

I've never been arrested or convicted of anything but the language is confusing me as it's a bit double negative. I think I do not have any unspent convictions is right but the longer I look at it the more confused I get...

If you'd been convicted and, for example, bound over for three years, and that was a year ago, then you would have an unspent conviction.

If you are out of jail on licence, you have an unspent conviction.

If you didn't get arrested and charged because you didn't do something wrong, and as a result of that you didn't get convicted for not doing it, even if it wasn't only a year ago, then you don't have any unspent convictions.

You're right, that's an awful sentence! However, delete 'do'

Just put not applicable (N/a) FFS...

You neither do nor don't have unspent convictions, its therefore not applicable.

I would be suprised if there is not a mass of guidance in small print... that you probably have not read.

That's the odd thing, this is actually the only question and it actually appears to be a form to fill out to give them permission to do a security search on you.

It says once they have the form they will then call for more details.

It's via my work and it's for pre-check for doing work that could be banking or government.

Hey OP, this is a bit of a sneaky one. If you have 'spent convictions' the fact that they are 'spent' therefore does not require you to disclose them. If you do not have any current live convictions then you can quite happily answer 'No'.

However, read what the small print says. Is this a basic disclusure CRB check or full disclosure? Full disclosure will show up all convictions, spent or not, basic won't. However, you should be informed which on it is.
