Hi all,

Just joined your club today. I am interested to hear your views after my experience of driving a Caterham 7 for a few days last week..... Fabulous drive..... Really enjoyed it.....

I am thinking of buying a 7 (road driving only) and would like to hear your experience of driving and caring for the vehicle taking account of the climate in West of Scotland.

Regards

A

Welcome!

I actually had a little thought of getting a Caterham too - apparently they're not too bad as daily drivers. It'd take a bit of dedication, mind, but they look so much fun. I'll need to get a shot behind the wheel of one and maybe give it some serious thought!

Welcome. No experience with 7's but as a realist the Scottish climate puts me off. Went a drive up to calender last night. Nice and sunny then out the blue it pissed down. Seen 2 lads in an ariel atom who didn't look too chuffed.

You'll certainly get proficient at putting the hood up and down in less than 10 seconds!

Depending on where you live/work, you might want something fwd with winter tyres for use in the winter. I always find a 7 a bit twitchy in the wet, let alone on frosty or icy roads....

Hi, dont just think about it go ahead and do it, i use mine more than i use my impreza wrx,the joy of driving a 7 is reflected in the response you get from other drivers or people you pass in the street, enjoy.

I had a seven from openroad hire last year , it was a fab day out through the Trossachs with the sun shinning. On a damp soggy morning I'm sure it would be a diferent storry.

The one we had was the wide bodied SV version, it was still a bit on the tight side, if your a large person !!

Everyone always asks is a Caterham can really be a practical everyday consideration. Ask youself this:
How many people ride a motorbike every day?
Does everyone talk about them being slightly unhinged (well, bikers are, by nature, slightly unhinged, but that's beside the point)?
How much more "practical" is a caterham to a bike? You can store a decent waterproof coat and a spare dry pair of trousers in the little locker for a start.

My brother has a screenless, roofless Westfield in London, and it's always my vehicle of choice when I'm down there, whatever the weather. Pair of biggles goggles (or helmet if you're going on a dual carriageway/motorway), and a properly waterproof overcoat. What else do you need?
