Morning Campers,

Yesterdays car of the day was a £5-6k Audi TT, yes I know its hated here but I love the design but the question is, how much of a shed would the car be in that price range?

Sold my TT @ 88k was still tight as a drum, it did have new arbs fitted as these can corrode other than that and the odd coil pack was trouble free. Go pretty well when remapped aswell

Was interested to see what one could get for that budget and I think that's a lovely car for the money.

make sure its had the haldex oil and filter change every 60,000 also. Plenty of people dont even know this needs doing! If the car has ANY rust on it its had a crash also. Shells are Galvanised and rust garanteed for 10years.

Have a look in the Audi/VW forum for TT/S3 info - topic is well covered.

I had one as my last car, 225 coupe on 100k.

Great car, except for the rust on wing bottoms, boot lid around lights and leading edge of sills. Audi 10 year corrosion warranty not worth a jot unless you have full Audi history.

As said check cambelt has been done with waterpump, otherwise get it done (circa £300). 225 should always have had the posh oil.

Mine was inspected by Audi for paint depth and found to have never had any paint. They refused to repair the corrosion as the rear boot lid "wasn't and exterior panel" and the sills and wings "had been left for too long before bringing it to their attention, thus rutst ahd set in and they wouldn't repair". Worthless.

Our TT schedule said haldex oil every 20k and the filter every 40k.

Ahh, couldnt remember the actual shedule, but know its something that get forgotten!!

As for the rust, only going on my experience, they refused mine due to it having been painted and therefore crashed smile

I bought swmbo a TT 225 with 75k on the clock. It's a sound little car that feels perfectly capable of doing another 75k with very little maintenance. There are a few little niggles as one might expect with a ten year old car, but overall I'm pretty chuffed with it; or at least I would be if I could summon the campness to drive the frikkin thing wink

Suspension is probably the main thing to check at this mileage I'd say (as well as the rest of the obvious points).

Thats it, you can do it yourself, dead easy the oil comes in a caulking tube, just whip the bolt out and drain and squirt new stuff in the same hole and quickly get the bolt in.

Filter needs a tool but is easy too. Takes 15 mins once you are under the car.

Check for broken coil springs and cracked antiroll bars - they rust. Coils rust due to the shape of the spring seats My car had 6 coil springs in its life and a rear anti roll bar. All of these should be picked up at MOT though.

My cars suspension at 100k was otherwise tight and the thing drove like new. Only had very slight play in the steering rack.

I thought this was going to be yet another thread having a dig at the R8 (£80-100K Audi TT shed).

That's pretty reassuring, so just watch out for the typical things + suspension and diff oil
