Any Jap Specialists in? RX8 Engine query
Discussion
Folks,
Trying to work out the exact differences between the high power and low power variants of the Renesis engine fitted in the RX-8...
I have a colleague who had an engine replaced, (long story cut short) since the replacement there have been consistent engine management lights and multiple misfires detected, fuel economy is worse than normal, power output is an average 170hp at the fly across 3 dyno runs..
We suspect that the lo-po engine has been fitted to his hi-po car, but need to confirm whether it's physically possible!?
TIA..

The high powered one has 6 intake ports, the low powered one has 4 intake ports, so it should be pretty obvious.
Misfires are usually coils/leads/plugs - find out what it is sharpish or the carbon'll jam the seals and he'll have another duff engine.
Coils, plugs and leads have all been replaced.. It's been running like this for a while and, unfortunately, the business that carried out the engine swap have now gone to the wall, after suggesting that the lack of power and constant engine management light was nothing to do with their work..Misfires are usually coils/leads/plugs - find out what it is sharpish or the carbon'll jam the seals and he'll have another duff engine.
