So today our Sales have taken in a MK5 Golf.. It's magically now got Traction Control Light on, so I had to take it to VW to be read.

Jesus, Christ.

Are these really as st as this one is? Its a 1.4, and out onto the NSL roads..

I thought, this is slow.. 0-60 I got bored at counting in my head at 18 seconds and we weren't at 60mph yet.

So come on, whats the worst car you've driven so far?

Its got bloody ESP too!

ESP on that.. I thought it was a joke at first.

I had to check I didn't have the handbrake on, and that there was an engine under the bonnet! eek

If I'm reading correctly, smallest engine seems to be a 3.8L?

Why was it so bad?

Citroen 2CV

fine if you're a French farmer, but otherwise a bag of ste. Underpowerred, slow, no safety to speak of, rust quickly, handle like jelly, the list just goes on and on.

PS, yes I know they are simple, easy to repair and have no dizzy, etc, that doesn't make up for it!

Christ. my ZR doesn't have any aids (snigger) and its a 1.4 and weighs (i imagine) a fair bit less than a newer golf!

Have you driven one? If not please desist until you do. Excellent brakes, handling and a hoot to drive.

I've recently been driving a 10 plate 1.4 astra as a courtesy car and it is collasally awful! The engine has nothing in it and the visibility is so bad there have been a few near misses at roundabouts cos I can't see much out of the drivers side window! Can't wait to get my 20yr old golf back from the body shop, much safer and comfier plus lots more fun

This was bad.

I think its more than just a brake sensor fault, the damn thing is slower than slow.. I've driven Smart Cars quicker than this thing.

*thought* could be the traction control kicking in? My parent's old TT had a ABS problem where the sensor was overly sensitive or something which caused the traction control to engage.

It was that bad it made the Allegro look good.

It was supposed to have a wankel, but the oil crisis put the wind up that and they didn't have the money to develop a conventional replacement so shoehorned that enormously heavy cast iron straight six in in place of it. Cue supertanker-grade understeer and rubbish performance. AMC produced a lot of crappy cars and this was one of the crappiest.
