When I was 17 I told myself, drive carefully for 3 years, get your no claims bonus and then buy something a bit fun.

I started off with a 1.1 fiesta:



and then moved on quickly to a little 1.3 Mitsubishi Colt, which I know after reading PH for ages (but not posting much!) no body will like:



During this I managed to do quite a few trackdays in this Mazda 323, an odd choice I agree but what a brilliant car this was!



After selling the Mazda, I moved on to race a mk1 MR2 in the Silverstone Tyres MR2 Series which is incredible fun, but this will unfortunately be my only year racing it due to costs and the fact I'm still a student!

(Its the green one!)



Now that magical 3 year barrier is coming up, I had to get my self an MR2 after driving the racer, but instead of a mk1, I decided on a Mk2, and picked this up today. Can't stop smiling at the moment Don't worry, this one is staying completely standard!

My aspirations are to save enough money for a Mk2 MR2 (but in Black) but I probably won't be able to get insured until I'm 19, so not a massive priority..

How does it drive compared to the mk1? It's heavier, but is it more refined?

Ace Mk2 there - the best colour scheme by a mile.

thanks for the comments. my dad had to drive it back today from the dealer as I can't insure it for 1 week (until I turn 20), so i will let you know how it drives then!

Insurance wasn't too much of a problem, most companies wanted ridiculous prices, but Flux quoted just under 900 which for my age and a group 16 car I didn't think was too bad.

Aye, Flux insured me for abotu 700 when i was 21 too (only a couple of years ago!). THe other broker which was really good was Sky insurance which might be worth a call.

Make sure you fit the right size staggered tyres - some cheapo past owners fit more common sized narrower rear tyres to save money.

hi Seb, thats my old car if the last thee letters on the reg are ECD. I had the car from about 56 to 65000 miles and gave it a new cambelt from toyota. Took it on one track day and it was amazing. Great car with the best gear change ever. Just be damn careful in the wet!

the reg is FCD, not ECD so I'm sure this is identical to yours but not actually your car, they were probably side by side on the production line!
