Still umming and arring about changing my car when I came across a Tuscan in the right colours, right history, right price. After being offered between £12,500 and £15,000 for mine as a part exchange by other dealers I was very surprised when ******* said £8,000, albeit via email against the Tuscan!!
When I phoned up to enquire why she said if you don't like it go somewhere else!!!

I will.

Great service!!!

why are you suprised Corin? I once had a dealer (and I use the word dealer in the loosest sense) offer me 8K for my Griff against a Cerb, even now three years on it's worth more than 8k.....they are all rip off merchants some worse than others...

I think the p/ex offer will partly depend on whether the dealer has a number of Chimaeras of similar age/colour etc. If for instance they had several green Chimaeras and you had one to p/ex they know that it may take a while to shift all those green Chimaeras.

Also, I'm not surprised at this price. Give a dealer the expected markup - warranty, bit of tidying, free service, costs of borrowing for your car sitting on forecourt for a month or two and it is around what I'd expect.

Try an independent dealer for slightly better numbers.

I've never really thought it fair that people cant name names on here. I understand that the site does not permit defamatory comments, and I totally agree. However defamation is defined as "Act of injuring another's reputation by any slanderous communication" and slander is defined as "A false and malicious statement or report about someone".

So, provided what your saying is true and has evidence to support it, then surely it isnt deformatory and you can therefore post the name?

One of the main aims of this forum is to provide help and advice to others. Surely it is in everyones best interest to know both the good and bad concerning a particular product or service so we can all make a more informed decision. It may even lead to improvements in said product/service.

On the other hand, I suppose if it were allowed in an annonymous internet forum it would become open to abuse.... We'd get all kinds of un substantiated claims and slanging matches (actually we have those already). But then I suppose we could do do it anyway if we chose to, at least until the thread was closed.

Sorry, I'll stop rambling now.....

Good points, however the rules as they are are set by Ted and we really should abide by them until he reviews them and if neccesary changes his outlook.

Until that point it seems to work well as it stands and its not too difficult to find out who to avoid in such a small and incestuous marketplace...

Corin,

I know the dealer and sales person to whom you are referring and I have been signularly unimpressed by their lack of customer service. That's why I send my Griff hundreds of miles to Peninsula - great service and great quality of work!

As I've said many times before, establishing whether something is slanderous or libelous requires investigation. It's all very well saying, "it's not libelous because it's true" but I don't have the resources to establish whether someone is telling the truth, exaggerating, got the wrong end of the stick etc.

Hearing dealers explain their side of certain incidents sometimes makes you wonder about some of the 'clear cut' incidents that punters whinge about.

For that reason I ask that you respect this simple request. It's not ideal but it's the best means of me dealing with this issue here.

As for low trade in values, it's a crude (and possibly ill advised) way of saying that they don't want your car currently. Granted it would be better if they came straight out with it but they don't know how desperate you are to sell or to acquire the car you're after.

Don't take it personally. Car buying and selling is a business - simple as that.
