My 99 S1 VVS had an ignition problem a few weeks back whilst on track so i changed the twin coil pack (replaced with origional lotus equipment), ignition leads (replaced with Magnecor Red KV 85) and plugs (replced with Lotus origional - Champion).

Car started up ok and ran fine but as soon as i opened her up the MIL flashed. I backed off and MIL went out. Couple of miles later opened her up again for a bit longer and MIL ligh came on solid and running on two cylinders.

Repeated this a couple of times and still the same. Tried rebooting ECU and still the same.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

you cannot use NON-OEM ignition leads, the miss-fire detection will trigger all the time as the 'different' leads react differently.

you have to either use OEM leads, or loose the miss-fire detection box.

(this assumes your talking about an Elise 111S with VVC engine)

Thanks

To loose the missfire detection unit i presume its just a case of pulling out the connector in the unit in the boot? do i need to reset the ECU by disonnecting the battery?

Do i loose any other unctionality by ditching the MDU?

Basically yes.

It serves no other function (it's there to prevent unburnt fuel entering the CAT.)

Update

Pulled Missfire Dettection Unit plug out in boot and disconnected battery for about an hour. Reconnected battery and engine would not even attempt to fire just turned over.

Replugged missfire detection unit in and engine fired first time.

Anything else i need to do or is it OEM leads?

err...

you need to look at this a bit harder!

it's piggy-backed into the ECU, you need to un-plug BOTH it and the ECU, then plug the ENGINE loom into the ECU (and remove the piggy-back loom)

SORTED

Scuffers as you said i unpicked the new Misfire Detection Unit loom and changed over the connectors from the crankshaft, throttle position and twin coil connectiors and she fired up and runs perfect.

Thanks
