Have just done a 600mile trip to wales and back, was pulloing like a train until we hit 50/60 average speed so was pottering along, when we left average went to boot it and it wasnt pulling!

It then would have 2 second burst of rapid then go back to missing, it is a 2002 tourer and has done 180k! never had a problem with it before, it needs a service, so will be doing that tomorrow, but otherwise does anybody else no what the problem could be?? we believe to be fuel filter or injector, very rough idle and chugs when no revs, is flat 99% of the time, and was getting 41mpg now only getting 30mpg!

Much help appreciated, Thanks

Sounds like one or more of the injectors are playing up.

Could be the injectors themselves or even the fuel rail or pump. Could be as simple as a damaged wiring loom. Which can perish the casing at this age.

I would take it to a specialist BMW garage and they can plug it in and check the injector timings.

Not uncommon on any diesel car on this mileage.

Only other thing I could suggest is run a few tanks of vpower through it and keep revs at between 2.5 and 3k rpm dropping to 2k occasionally. Maintain max cylinder pressure and get the heat up to assist soot burn. Idle car for up to 1 min before switching off.

Possibly but doesn't play a part in the rough idle.

definately not a turbo, had new one not long ago also no black smoke! we believe it to be injectors, had new fuel pump around 25k/ year ago.

Dont think there would be too much soot build up as it normally just dumps it once bein booted!

Will have a proper check tomorrow!thanks
