Ok just had an unexpected payrise a tidy 15% so given this was totally unexpected I'm considering putting say £10k into a weekend car.
I'm not after anything run of the mill - I want big power really good engine noise good looks and solid resale or say low risk of a depn hit.
I want petrol as already have a conpetant commuter in a 330d and rather than pay down mortgage I want to use some for a very nice holiday and some on a car.

No rangerover or similar a hatch or saloon or coupe which is sexy very fast safe and reliable. Classics certainly considered.

So given that spec it's very wide open ideas please. Also note I say £10k but if it's a £5k car then fine and I guess possibly a few k over is fine only for the right one.

Really looking forward to this - also aim would be long term ownership

If you are willing to go two seater a tvr matches your criteria, a Tuscan maybe?

Not on £10k if you want a good rust free example. If you do expect to pay the same again to put it right.

Get yourself a classic Mustang. Almost guaranteed to hold it's value, will put a smile on your face, has the noise and go when you're sensible.

Sorry not 100% with it, have I put my foot in it? tongue out

A classic yank like a Mussie or a bit of Mopar will hold its value, though re-reading the original post a good example might be a bit difficult to find.

Get yourself a nice 2nd or 3rd gen f-body for some good cheap thrills!

Congrats on the payrise!!

As for the car, Alfa 1750gtv? Porker 928(a good one), Datsun 240z? M3 if you want to stay bmw route.

I would also like to get in first with the inevitable 'mx5' option!
