Registered Keepers / Trade-in's
Discussion
Looking for some advice please! Bought a E46 back in Nov 2007 from BMW Dealership on a PCP. At the time the car was 2 yrs old.
Really love my car but its getting a bit old and am looking to change. Have been back to a few BMW dealerships to get a price on mine for trade-in. They have given me terrible prices but are saying that this is due to me being the 5th registered keeper of the car!!! That would mean that in the 2 years previous to me owning it, it had 4 other registered keepers. I asked if this might have been when dealerships registered it but they say it doesn't matter. The fact that I am the 5th means they would put it to auction rather than resale on their forecourt. They have advised me to go back to the dealership of purchase and query but say it is doubtful I will get anywhere.
I've looked through all the paperwork I have/was given at the time and nothing refers to amount of owners. I think from memory the salesmans said it had one owner. Unfortunately I have nothing to prove this but I doubt I would have bought it if I'd known I was about to become the 5th owner after just 2 years.
Does anyone know the BMW policy on how many owners a car has before they put it to auction? i.e should they have sold it to me when it had 4 owners already or are they just telling me a heap of crap in the first place.
One salesman we spoke to said as this may have been mis-sold to us we should pursue the Dealership as we may be entitled to a refund - has anyone done this before? Imagine it would be difficult as we have no proof in writing of what was discussed at the time.
Not sure I want to go through the hassle of private sale and on looking into it, I can hand back via Voluntary Termination anyway. Am going to call the dealer I bought it from later today. Any advice??
Cheers

Utter bulls
t in my experience, unless it's a cooking model E46 (318i SE saloon for example)they are using this as leverage to justify their offers, I bought a Mini Cooper S Works in 07 for my OH and it had five previous keepers and funnily enough came from a main dealer, when we traded it back in a year later it then returned to the main dealer we bought it from and was sold again by them
