Problem with an R56 Cooper S
Discussion
Hi guys, just have bought a 57 plate cooper S with the works engine+exhaust package, everything was completly fine on the test drive and the first day of ownership... a day later and on full throttle it appears to be missfiring, either that or something else that is causing the engine to momentarily lose power completly as it goes through full throttle acceleration. It results in very jerky (and thus impeded) acceleration. However it only ever happens under full throttle, as long as your not flooring it, no matter how high you take the revs, it is fine. This is really worrying me, any ideas as to what it could be? Anyone else experienced similar problems before?
I would guess that it has something to do with the coils, I had similar and although one coil failed, I had the full set changed under warranty.
Did the engine warning light come on when the engine lost power? I would suggest a small visit back to the dealer for them to plug in their diagnostics machine as this reads the cars behavior, past and present.

I know the inconvenience, when it happened to me I was between Calais on route to Amsterdam for business. I was just 10 minutes of getting of the ferry.
With the time that you have had the car I would suggest that the dealer should not have any issues checking and repairing. Where about are you located? Southampton have a good shop and friendly staff.
