Picked up the wife's T reg XK8 convertible on Friday night.

It seems to have a little glitch which has shown itself a couple of times. When hot it has died a couple of times when setting off from a junction. It seems to cough and then stall. It seems perfect in every other way! Any ideas?

Could be a air leak on the intake manifold somewhere, with the car running spray some WD40 around the intake manifold if the idle changes/speeds up you have a leak and that will be your problem.

Thanks, will give it a go.

What should the idle speed be? Mine seems to be at about 600rpm and drops to about 400 rpm when approaching a junction.

Might be worth taking the air intake pipework of and cleaning out the throttle body with some carb cleaner and a clean rag, gently open the butterfly valve with a finger and clean past the valve with more cleaner and an old toothbrush.

With the engine hot and idling lift the oil filler cap slightly. If you have a lot of pressure or fumes then chances it's got a blocked breather pipe.

After further consideration, methinks I'll just take it back where I got it and ask them to sort it out!
