Hi, got mot coming up soon on mx5, checked all of the car and without looking inside the sills yet (i will do for preventative measures later on) the only rust i can find is a tiny rust hole in the outer rear passenger side sill the size of a smartie. I have poked around and the inner sill definately seems solid, is the outer sill hole likely to fail the mot? thank you?

As the outer rear sill is actually the rear wing it shouldn't fail if the second layer is solid.

But TBH it tends to depend upon the tester.

corrosion within 30cm of a suspension/brake/steering or in your case seat belt mounting is a fail....

Sorry but in my book its a FAIL

Bummer. I think tomorrow ill take it to the mot station i am thinking of taking it to for its test and question them to see whether they would pass or fail it based on the little area, then go from there!

I thought the rule was something like any rust within 6" of the seat belt mounting point being a fail...

From recent experience rolleyes I can confirm this to be the case.

The welding cost me £50 btw.

Just been down the MOT station and the MOT tester had a look and said providing that there was no other rust round the area that was anyworse, the most he would do would be to put down as an advisory as right behind the little hole its completely solid. Maybe i should have shown u guys some pics beforehand! Pics of the car in its entirity are on my other thread "First mx5 - numerous questions". Its off for its MOT tomorrow now, a month early beacause i am going to france for possibly a month on saturday in it and dont want to be driving it back with no mot! Cheers.
