What's the quickeest time achieved by anyone with a relatively standard TVR? Speed 6 or V8?

Just interested as I had my first experience this weekend and really enjoyed it. However, couldn't get the time below 13 seconds (13.17 was my best) and I'm wondering how much better I could get if I improved launch technique.

My mate in a standard Viper has run 12.1....

I run 13.0 @ 107 in my Chim 450 when not using the nitrous. No special mods apart from a pair of sticky tyres.
What were your 60 foot times?

Are you low on numbers David?
I am very sorry to say it looks like i wont make it after all my faffin about trying to decide on the way forward for my car. The engines gone to Mike at boosted performance and it will take at least 6 weeks just to get the pistons made and delivered. Let hope a repeat event at Blackpool happens next year.

I must have missed the phase of TVR's history where they were building ricers. Doesn't the Nissan owners club run events for such vehicles?

As far as im aware the sprint is over 500 metres without a bend.
Timing will be taken at the 1/4 mile point also.

Timing will be taken at the 1/4 mile point also.

On advice from the MSA we're just running the 1/4 mile sprint and yes it's a straight line, again as there will be novices there it was advised that the kink is tricker than it looks.

Yes Derek we are struggling for entries I'm afraid, hence the presence of the Nissan, although it will be interesting to see it. Seems TVR owners are reluctant to enter. We'd enter ourselves but we'll be too busy on the day.

i am quite willing to offer my services as a driver if you trust me with your car. Or anyone else for that matter.
This is a serious proposition.
I can also provide a pair of decent rear wheels and tyres.

That's something I found rather strange over the past few years (ignoring the current financial climate): the dearth of TVR owners willing to take their cars on trackdays. Even with 7K odd TVRCC members, there was so little interest that TVR exclusive events are now very rare. As for this sprint, interesting though I'm sure it will be for spectators, I would guess that the additional cost etc. of gear & licence will dissuade all but those who already compete in motorsport in some way. I would guess that noise levels will also be a major factor in owners not bothering.

My best 60 ft time was 1.937 and mid ET 8.629. My reaction time was really slow though, and I have to perfect a launch.

Mind you I was just running on normal road tyres and didn't drop the pressure until late on, when I'd also taken the lid off the car.

Still great fun.

Certainly won't be bringing the race car (tto much faf for a social weekend, but the S Turbo could be tempted out of sprint retirement..

Probably too late...but a thought, if its just a standing 1/4, could the event not have been run under the same regs as a run what you brung event - negating the need for licences and compliance with MSA reg - probably the biggest barrier to entry?

Getting under 2 seconds on standard street tyres isnt too shabby. With a pair of Toyo R888's ( I used to run these with 14psi in) or similar you could take another couple of tenths off this which could take 1/2 a second or more off your et, so mid 12's are to be had.
Yout reaction time doesnt have any affect on your et. The time starts as you set off. Good reaction times are required however to gain an advantage in the race with your opponent. Ive beaten much faster cars with dozy drivers this way.;)
If you want to go quicker again then nitrous is bar far the easiest and cheapest method.

When times are a bit better I may well invest in a pair of stickies for the rear, just for these events.

Mid 12 would be nice, but I guess there isn't much point in chasing my mate in his Viper who managed a 12.1.

This is where the gas comes in handy. I run 11.6 on it so would have the viper no probs.

I agree about the potential of the extra cost might be putting people off but there was a very healthy number of entries the last time this was run (1998) I guess it might be that the nature of TVR ownership is evolving into a more social activity? Noise levels are not an issue as we have the loudest noise limit (110db) I've seen for a long time anywhere

To answer John's question yes we've considered it but if the event isn't MSA licenced then the event can only be run as a 'demonstration' and so you're not supposed to time it or exceed 70mph.

Yes please bring out the 3000.

Does 13.15 @ 109.7mph sound reasonable for a standard Chimaera 500 on standard tyres.
