Yeovilton air day
Discussion
So I had a good day out and in true British fashion got myself impressively sunburnt. No good pictures of the air displays as I was only using a point and shoot. I'm a sucker for lens flare though so heres a picture or two.
Parachute display team
The Brietling wing walkers
I don't believe these need any introduction
The F16s were fabulously loud and I was particularly impressed by their displays.
The Harrier display surprised me as I'm sure I read a discussion on here about them being unable to sustain a hover for over 30 seconds. Granted the guy was without stores and probably a light load of fuel, but it sustained a hover or as good as for around 3 minutes. There was some unnerving looking white smoke / steam venting forward of the engine ducts but I guess this is normal

Had a good day there as well. I didn't actually spend a lot of time watching the flying (apart from the Vulcan). I spent a lot of time wandering around the static display and chatting to the verious flight crew and aircraft owners (which is my favourite part of air shows these days). I had a really interesting chat with the team whio are carying out an archeological style paint strip down of the FAA museum's Grumman Martlet (Wildcat). They are also reconstructing a Gloster Sea Gladiator for the museum.

I had that process explained to me at the museum on Friday. Had a wonderful tour of it, and Haynes Motor Museum all in the course of a days work. Those running them are real enthusiasts and so lucky to have jobs doing something they love with a passion and getting paid for it!Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
