Footwell fresh air vents ... how to make them work !!

Now I have the fresh air vents in the footwell / side of the transmition tunnel which dont seen to do anything apart from pull heat into the cabin !!

So my question is has anyone done anything to get fresh air too them ?

I see you've got a 500 so you won't have the blown auxiliary fresh air vent in the side of the drivers footwell. In my Griff 500 the footwell vents are up in the bulkhead, they are connected to the heater system so you need to get the system to blow cold air to have any success. Once you've got the hot/cold valve working properly then you should be able to get cold air out of these vents.

Its worth checking the hot water valve is fully rotating and switching of the flow.

Even though the motor was turning my valve, it was not completely shutting off the flow, I found by assisting it by hand a couple of times (this is probably asking for trouble!!!) it sorted it out and now I get cool air through most of the vents.

Well I get all the knobs making a sound when they are moved and I get air blowing through the foot well vents, so some of it must be working !!!

Its just hot not cool air, will have to do more invistigation when I have a bit more time.

Sounds like you've got the problem of the servo motors working but not tuning the valve. There is a little grub screw on the spindle of the servo (like a radio knob) and it comes loose. It's a bit complicated curing it but basically theres a blob of white paint on the servo actuating wheel at the off position and you should be bale to realign it and tighten the grub screw.

The latest Golf valves have two plastic stops that make it much easier to correctly register the valve. Anything other than fully closed is no good.

If in doubt replace it and register it in the footwell before you refit it, that way you can blow through it and test it.

Depends if your on about the seperate blower that sits in the drivers side wing. I had this on which has a 3 speed turn knob under the dash (drivers side obviously) this took cold air straight from the appature in the side of nose appature just in front of the rad . It always seem to blow cold as you like just into the drivers footwell and was a god send on hot trips across Europe , was nearly as good as aircon even if only for the drivers legs lol. It's completely seperate to the normal heater blower.

I'm not 100% but think these were put on 95/96 cars!!

Drivers fresh air fan is also connected to blow fresh air through the drivers side fascia vent.
My 96 Griff has this fitted.
