Just installed Norton Internet Security 2004 on a XP Professional PC.
Problem is the Norton IS won't start. Have disabled the XP Internet Connection Firewall within services, rebooted and reinstalled.
Same software works fine on my W2K PC.

Any Ideas??

Is such a combination working on anyone elses PC.

Was never sure if it was me, slightly different systems NAV and XPhome, but I could never get the two to operate happily together, drove me mad.
I personally feel that Nortons has a lot of unresolved conflicts with XP. I gave up in the end and went over to the free AVG AV, which incidentally found two resident worms that NAV never did .

All IMHO, I'm sure there are millions out there that don't have a problem though, just my 2p worth, but I'll never get another Nortons programme again.

Seeing similar problems in the field with NAV2004, especially when Win 98 involved.

Putting all my customers with McAfee for this reason. Never get any problems with it's latest version.

Nav2004 on its own works well.

Norton Internet Security just fails to start, I've opened the services file and disabled IIS, firewall at start up, but still wont work.

Malboro,

Have you updated teh s/ware yet? mine wouldn't start properly 'till the live update was finished.
Mind you I wish I'd not bothered, its a slow old dog, making my XP2600+ which is O'c'd to xp3000 specs run like a snail at times.

Running NAV2004 with XP Pro - no bother at all. OK, its not the full internet protection suite, but it just shows that this combination can be OK. I gave up on McAffee because of trouble with that!

All updates are loaded. It's working on my W2K pc but as Kevin say's it REALLY effects performance. So much so I thinking of uninstalling it.

I've tried several software firewalls and they all seem to screw performance. Would expect a small difference but not to reduce a XP2400+ by half.

I'll rely upon the port blocking on my Linksys WLan box. Guess the way forward is a hardware based firewall such as Netscreen. Bloody expensive just for home.
