anyone ever heard of/used these people?

my mum dies earlier this year and my dad has gotten twitchy about wills - he has seen an advert for the above outfit in the local paper.....we live a good distance away these days so just wondered if anyone had some experience or could offer some useful advice I can give my dad via the phone.

thanks

Craig

This thread might show some interesting stuff (and controversy) about low price will writing. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Inheritance and will writing

The trust element may not be relevant to him, but the discussion about low cost will writing is - Pennine's website says they do wills from about £30, and a visit to discuss it in your own home....they'll not be making money on that! so there must be some other element - e.g. executorship.

Have a look at the "Which" website for impartial information, particularly with reference to the level of advice he'll need and whether he will need expensive executors - if he's got a simple estate then he may not. It might be worth looking at some websites and a few quid well spent to get a book or two, then to use a solicitor, or decide he doesn't need to as his circumstances dictate.

Which? also links to some PDF downloads from Age Concern/ AgeUk http://www.ageuk.org.uk/money-matters/legal-issues...

Also this from the gov't. http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/civil...

Will-making is something many put off too long - us included - if I or my wife were to die the survivor would have to sell the house in order to divide the remainder of the estate to the children or executors in trust for them until they reached the ?wise old age of 18 when they'd have access to all of it.... not a good idea when a few hours and a few ££ would sort things out and save a shed-load of tax.

Go see a proper solicitor and make a proper will - most of these will writers are un-insured, unqualified, and a liability. The way they work is to offer a low cost simple will, which is hard to fk up, and when it gets more complicated, they don't cover all the eventualities and you only know about it when it all goes tits up - by which time its too late.
