The only thing about Wedge ownership that is ticking me off

The love affair goes on - should have got one years ago but.........
Every time the car sits in the sun and the windscreen gets hot - the bloody rear view mirror falls off. I have had it repaired professionally a couple of times, I have done it myself with araldite and something else awful expensive from the local SHED, tried Velco pads - they failed too.
(Please don't tell me to park in the shade!)
Top soluitons seems to be a six quid suction pad mirror from Halfords - not quite as cool but it stayed there all last week.
Anyone got any good tips for getting scummy old glue off the inside of the screen?
Regards
EWAN

Superglue? I did the jeep one a few months back and it's sill on there.
Agree... I had the same problem on my old XR2 years ago! Bloody thing kept plopping off!!Don't bother with Hal's sticky pads, rubbish. You need to ensure the surface is absolutely free of grease, oil, probably O2 with those things!
I superglued it on, held for as long as I had the car, which was 2 years or so.
Only issue was bonding straight to the screen transmitted vibrations to the mirror as it lacked the rubber pad.
Didn't care though, it finally stayed on, that was all I cared about.
Sticking anything to glass is *all* about preparation of the glass. Glass is hydrophilic and it normally likes to have a monomolecular layer of water attached to it. It might look dry, but there is normally a single layer of water molecules stuck to it.
So, use the IPA cleaning pad, then gently use a hair dryer to warm the screen so its hot to the touch. Dont use a hot air gun, the thermal stress will break the glass(!!!!!) cos the HAG gets so much hotter than a hair dryer. The heat will evaporate the water monolayer, and the glass will be properly dry. Sorted.
Dont touch the screen where youre gonna stick the mirror whatever you do, cos the grease off your fingers will bugger the bond up and it'll never stick.
Then, put the mirror in place and hold it there for ages and ages. Well, 10 minutes or so normally does the trick without moving it one micron, by which time your left arm will feel like that of a pervert in a PC repair shop, but it'll be stuck.
I did the same with a Vixen (although I didnt visit the PC reapir shop...), and to my knowledge the miror is still on.
Preparation is absolutely key when sticking stuff to glass.
