My wife and her sister want to take their mum away for a horsey weekend for her birthday.

With that in mind, and knowing there a lot of horse folks on here, I thought I'd ask for some recommendations.

They want the following:

  • Horse trekking centre in either: Lakes, Northumberland, or Dales - not Moors as we live here and they want a change of scenery. It should also be a spot that allows galloping etc. and not just a follow the leader walk for an hour.
However, where it gets more complicated is that they also have the following criteria:

  • Within reasonable distance of nice hotel / restaurant
  • Within reasonable distance of a spa type place.
They basically want to do a days horse stuff and then be pampered for a day.

Thanks

Rich

I would agree with Kimmerston, although the Luxury hotel nearby could be an issue.

Horsey people at www.mellingdubfarm.co.uk will be able to point you at something local to them. They've got nice holiday cottages there.

DeVere Slaley Hall for the pampering bit, and I'm sure there are hods of trekking/equestrian centres around.

Thanks for the responses chaps. Luckily we have the Times travel - never read it though, so I'll go and dig it out the recycling pile.

I'll pass on the recommendations.

Oh and yes, they would need to hire horses.

Any good?

I'm not horsey in the least but this place is just down the road from me. 6 or so miles North of Harrogate so plenty of expensive hotels available.
