Hello folks,

I was wondering if anyone on here has the 5.0 version of the XK. How are you finding the ownership experience?

As its a new engine are there any issues or has it been plain sailing?

Are you enjoying the experience?

LP.

LP, the 5.0 XK is as fast as the 4.2 XKR. The engine has no issues like the years earlier 4.0 from which it originates (nikasil, timing chain tensioners) so I would say you are as safe as houses with it. This however is nothing compared with the introduction of the 'Adaptive Dynamics' (chequered flag button on centre console) this makes the car light years more drivable than the previous 4.2 powered XK. If I'm not mistaken the 5.0 XK doesn't get the ediff like the 5.0 XKR, but the motoring mags say the 5.0 XK is all you'd ever need.....make sure it's a Portfolio spec car.....

Thanks for your post.

Well I am thinking of the XKR 5.0l model. It's a bit expensive right now but this time next summer I am hoping it will be approaching the 40k mark.

Yes agree, for the extra £5k price difference the XKR is the way to go......just hang on for a bit longer..... wink

Right now 2007 XKR with low miles is about £30-35k. Good examples are £35k.

I am assuming next year this time; 2008 XKR will be £30-35k. Maybe if my assumptions are correct then the 2009 XKR 5.0 might be... 40k-ish+. I think it is worth holding out for the 5.0 XKR.

Hard to say where the prices will be next year for the 5.0 models. It's a slightly unusual situation because they didn't sell that many cars in 2009, so now that demand is picking up, there could be more potential buyers than cars available. It is an outstanding car and I love mine, although in truth the naturally aspirated 5.0 would have more than enough performance for most buyers. The supercharged 5.0 engine must be one of the best engines in production right now, in any car.

I've been debating the 5.0 XKR thing. Seems that a £75k RRP XKR, is worth about £55k after 12months. I must be getting old, or I don't earn enough money, but £20k is just too rich for me, even if I can get a chunk off list. Right now RRP for the first 5.0 XKR's are down to £50k (c.18mnths), agree lack of sales will impact a bit but I think the bigger issue will be finding the right car not so much the best price.

3 year old Jags always seem the best compromise....

My 3 month old ex-demo was £58K, so that's a big chunk of the depreciation gone straight away. Although I did drive a hard enough bargain that I thought they wouldn't bite. They did after a couple of days though biggrin

I have the new XKR, it has been re-mapped and it has Miltech exhaust system, it now produces 600hp, not that it needs it!! it is an amazing car, 6k on the clock so far and no issues the spec is outstanding. I love driving it and it certainly gets a lot of attention with its new looks. Bite the bullet and buy one if you can afford it, you wont be disappointed.

Someone is bound to park one in a tree sooner or later, you just don't want them to doing too hard. Particularly with the new e-diff, so they'll probably hit it going forwards. How many more horses do you need till you've got a better power to weight ration than a BuFatti ?
