I have located two dealers with low milage Panda 100hp's I'm thinking about swapping my 500 for.

Dealer 1.
I have left three messages for them to call me back, nothing.

Dealer 2.
Promised to call me back with a cost to change (the know my car already) "within 10 mins sir", that was at 9:30am this morning.

How hard can it be to by a car these days?

I expect they're thinking about ringing you back.

Suffice to say, if the right deal is there I will actually change, but if they don't call back soon I shall just tell them to shove it, in the nicest possible way of course.

Dealer 1.

Erm, do you ring up, get a secretary, and ask to be put through to someone in sales? This approach usually elicits an actual salesman on the other end of the phone.

Erm, yes funnily enough, always results in "can I get somebody to call you"

I've even tried PM'ing a guy who I know work in a Fiat dealer from another forum, with no result.

Why not just go down to your local dealer and have a chat? I often find dealing with car dealers via Email is like talking to a turd.

My local dealer is the one who should be calling me back "in 5 mins", and the next closest is the one who won't return calls.

To be honest why should I chase them for a sale?

I agree, it's very rare to get a dealer to take a lot of interest over the phone/via email.

Face to face always seems the best way.

Are you buying new? A friend managed to get quite a lot of money off his Panda 100HP shortly after they came out by using one of these third party websites. If it's relevant I'll try and find out which one...

There is a very limited markets for used 500's supposedly because the new car is so cheap... they probably don't want it.

I dont think thats such a bargain. They were £7300 brand new about 18 months ago on the fiat super saver website.

You shouldn't.

I'm not saying that emailing them is wrong. That would be stupid! Just that you should probably just turn up and have a chat if you want a decent response when buying from a main dealer.

Take your business elsewhere or buy private.

That's not KTA (AKA Pewsham Garage) is it?

For the record I think I know the dealer you refer to on the other forum and when I called them to buy our 500 they refused to deal over the phone. I ended up going to Westover as they were the only people who were prepared to sell a car.

I'm half tempted to go into the delaer that promised to call me back & talk about a deal, then at the very point of shaking on it, pop my thumb to my nose, waggle my fingers & make a rasberry noise, followed by a "I was just kidding" then a "that's what you get for not calling back when you say you will".

Mature? It's my middle name.

It amazes me how few car salesmen are prepared to chase email/phone leads.

Like most people, I imagine, when I bought my car I was working during the day so couldn't just go and visit on the off chance they still had the car I was looking at (as most also don't seem to keep their autotrader listings current). I'd be searching online at 9 or 10 at night so the only feasible way was emailing as I didn't want to take a big callcack list into work.

The dealer that sold me my car answered my email at 8 the following morning, I went to see it after work driving to Kettering (from Brum) and gave him the money. It was a very easy transaction and the way it should be!

I hope you get your new car sorted - it might be worth a quick cruise and have a word with the dealer principal just to remind them that there is £ out there they are missing.

Sounds like nothing has changed then.

When my GF was looking for a car ~2 years ago we tried to get a test drive in the 100hp, I looked everywhere- left messages etc, no dealer ever phoned me back, FIAT uk didnt come back to me as to where we could get a test drive.. suffice to say she bought a Swift instead!
