New expansion tank going in and the old 15 does not seal, there is a 13 that seals and I have just got a slightly different reach 15 from the factors that does seal. Main question really, 2lbs have that much of a difference on a rad cap?

If it works the old expansion is up for grabs but looking at it I am not sure how long it has got. The metal inserts are bulging with corrosion under the plastic.

Wonder if it is possible to drill out the metal inserts, very carefully of course, and use sans inserts? Obviously they will be weaker but might extent the life?

The ones I had made were 15 and even that isn't strong enough to keep water in under all conditions, so it's best to use them with a catch tank if there is room.

You might not want to go higher 'cos hoses and seals might start to go. The difference between 13 and 15 is probably 10C in boiling point, once it boils you start to lose water very rapidly. However there is also the tolerance of the psi rating of the cap, they are probably no better that 10% when brand new.

Cheers Adam. The one that was on the old one was blowing (15). I will be using catch tank. Better measure up the new 15 to compare with the neck depth and add some anti freeze.

You can always stick a shim under the spring to up the pressure a bit...

Blatant plug I will have more new rad caps at BBWF - the last of the batch...

I'll have one. Just been for a run and its all hunky dory. BUT noticed a chaffing on the hose from the swan neck to the thermostat (not touched that with this tank change) and its weeping ranting

Do you think anyone local sells the stuff? No. Might be a the fest in the festa ranting Local factors has ordered some stuff, demon tweeks has sent some, should be OK.

Can't you chop a bit off the end of the hose and put it back on, there is usually some slack?

Failing that try a landrover dealer near you tomorrow.

Its in the inside of the bend. The tensioner for one of the belts has chewed it, can almost poke my finger through. Looks recent as well but I can see no reason why, rad seems solid so I think there is an issue or two I cannot find. Been checking the pipe off the rad to the extension pipe and that has chaffed as well. I have 35mm straight and some other stuff but cannot get it to keep out of the tensioner way. The 35 mm crushes tight so there will be flow issues.

Nearest LR dealer is Cardiff or Swansea so think I am on a hiding to nothing. We are coming up tomorrow.

Think I will bite the bullet and just order a pack off ACT and come up in the boringmobile.

I suppose it depends which one has a hose that'll fit the wedge!!! Nick a hose and make it happen.

The rise in boiling point isn't that much; IIRC it's 1.5C per PSI. I used to fit a 20 for track days. Whether you can get away with a 13 will depend on your car and how you drive. Gentle driving and clear rad and waterways will make a big difference.

You might be right, I was working it out by deriving it from the drop in boiling point with elevation.

2 psi is 1/7th of an atmosphere so I though it would make quite an effect. 15 psi (one atmos and a bit) definitely gives +15C at least, maybe a bit higher.

No problemo I'll get you a replacement off and an SAE to get the duff one back - I've heard of one or two others going, out of a batch of 100. I'd like to see why & pass back to the manufacturers.
