Basically the key won't turn in the ignition normally. I did some googling and found out that the steering lock engages under pressure and is hard to unlock so I tried started it wiggling the steering wheel while turning the key and it works. However obviously she'd like this fixed just in case she can't get it started one time. But this is where I came to a blank - what needs replacing the steering lock or the ignition? As an aside the key looks OK, still quite sharp and not that weathered

Its a 2001 1.2 8V "Active" (it's not very) if that matters, thanks for the help

I don't think it'll get worse, I've seen it happen on a few cars, you just need to take the tension off of the lock by moving the wheel in the opposite direction to the lock as you turn the key.
