Current Audi RS6 Faces The Axe
Autumn death for fast Audi ahead of all-new A6 unveil
Fast German saloons are dropping like flies at the moment: a matter of mere days after the E60 BMW M5 shuffled off this mortal production line, Audi has revealed that the RS6 is also soon to face the final cut.
The 572bhp, 479lb ft twin-turbo V10 monster will end its production run this autumn, ahead of the expected unveil of an all-new A6 in spring 2011.
Although Audi has always followed the policy of having only one RS-badged car, a new RS6 is expected to follow on shortly after the debut of the new A6, and could run alongside the new RS5.
Audi is expected to drop the current car's V10 for the next RS6, replacing it with a biturbo V8 with 550-600hp.
Discussion
The previous gen RS6 seemed to be really popular, knew several people who had them, and friends who weren't that into cars knew what they were and wanted one. The reviews of this generation seemed luke warm, and I can only remember seeing one of the current RS6 on the road - has it been a good seller?
Audi have been offering 3 RS models recently..
RS6
TTRS
and RS5
The RS3 is due for release shortly and i would expect this is why the RS6 is being removed.
On another note hasnt the A6 only recently been facelifted..? Addition of DRL, bumper styling tweaks etc around summer last year??

Erm...no. Apologies for my pedantry but Audi's offered both a TT-RS and RS6 for the last few months.

And wasn't there an overlap of the RS4 still being on sale at the time when the RS6 was released?

Are they going to do a + run-out version?
I think they already do a "Plus". Limited to 500 units worldwide. No more power, but the limiter is raised, more bits of carbon trim, special all leather "Audi Exclusive" interiors.

I suspect it hasn't. As you say, reviews were only average. Apparently it's to heavy and feels it compared to the other usual suspects. It's also the last bad old Audis with the engine mounted so far up front it's practically in the front bumper!Dealers have had to buy up a fair few of these RS6s and sell them on with big discounts. It also hit the market at arguably one of the worst times, with fuel prices going bonkers and the financial meltdown.
My dad had the prveious gen RS6 and loved it to bits. It's such a good alll round tool.
The new V10 version was perhaps one of the most dissapointings cars we've ever driven.
Didn't feel any quicker until above 80mph, didnt really sound all that great, and worst of all it was just far too heavy, it squirmed under breaking. Difficult to drive smoothly too, found the auto box far from ideal. And that was the slightly lighter saloon compared to his old avant.
That and the asking price of £70k plus (in fairness 50K-60K was nearer the mark for a nearly new one)
Dad was so dissapointed, he really wanted to like it but just couldn't.
The first gen felt special and still looks good today. Granted it was never the absolute sharpest drivers tool, but as an everday package, just imense.
