Taking my '98 4.2 from Essex to the lake district and back this weekend. Did John O'Groats and back last year. Am I pushing my luck???

I would like to think that assuming the car is well maintained and you give her a thorough check over first all will be well. Have a good trip - it is after all what the cars were made for!

I did Kent to the North of Scotland and back last year, no problem at all.

Le mans classics and back in a couple of days with the temp in the 30's all weekend, racing with a convoy of two 911, z3 and an Elise. These cars are designed for exactly that kind of journey. Don't worry yourself just make sure you have breakdown cover.

I recommend the 1st lane most of the way. You will make better progress than all those idiots 'caterpillering' nose to tail in the 3rd lane.
The traffic eases off once a few miles north of Lancaster.
Luckily i travel 331 miles from Portsmouth to Barrow tonight. About 4 hours 30 usually.

Pah - did the lake district a few months after we bought our car. Take it through the hills - great noises

It's a great long distance tourer, really comfy, fast (ok not too quiet). You just need to stop every couple of hours for fuel.

Doing an average of about 5K a year in ours. 2008 and 2009 Durham to the 'Ring
and back via Dover and this year Spa and back. 1st trip lost a bolt from the exhaust.
2nd trip returned with a noisy wheel bearing and this year threw the AC belt off. So
thats a 1400 / 1500 mile trip including a thrash on track every year. Not bad for
reliability. Oh now 63000 miles on original motor and box, but can feel a new clutch coming on.

My John O Groats trip last year was awesome in the cerb. The A9 from Inverness up the coast has got to be one of the most spectacular roads in Britain. I'd love to do it again

Have to agree with my leaned friend Hawkeye. The roads up there are fantastic and empty.

The Cerb is made for a longer, high speed trip IMO. Took mine to Le Mans last year in the company of a Chim and a Triumph Tiger - great high speed trip, particularly on the way back as we initially headed south from Le Mans then looped back up northwards / north west - open empty French roads - superb.

I'm off up to NW Scotland on my motorbike in August - one of the roads you need to drive is the road from Invagarry up to Kyle of Lochalsh A87 - it is a spectacular road.
