Electric Aerial (X300)

Had this problem since i bought the car in April, The aerial goes up, but only 2/3rd of the way. Some times it will stay up, but sometimes it goes down on it's own.
Has anyone had this and managed to sort it without buying a new aerial, is there a relay etc?
I've noticed there are masts available for these,has anyone fitted one, is access easy? I've got the CD rom manual but it doesn't seem to cover this.

Done the wd40/oil thing, The mast looks clean and straight but doesn't go all the way up.

Had a similar (common, apparently) problem that was addressed on my last service, the garage just cleaned the entire aerial and oiled it. 4 months on and it still works perfectly.

If that hadn't workd, I think the replacement would have been less than £30 fitted, a job you could easily do yourself for the cost of parts.
