Anybody used water wetter in their cooling system - if so what were your experiences?

Have been recommended it to reduced water temps slightly, but wanted to see what the PH massive thinks of it.

We've used it in the racer (previously MGB, now TVR Griff) running a full race 3.9 (well, about 4.1 now) V8 at around 385bhp flywheel power, and it does work. It reduced the water temp in ours noticably and we've never experienced any temp probs no matter how warm the weather is.

It's a strange one to work out in your head how it works etc, but it does! HTH smile

How much did it reduce temps by? Would you notice a difference in day to day driving or only when pressing on and working the engine?

Have read a few negative comments on the net but i suppose you would only see a difference in highly powered engines that produce a lot of heat i.e. the s6 engine?

Yep, I've used it. Easily worth 6 - 10 oC (having used an infrared thermometer).

A few years back, I took the Chimaera to Spain, and it was 42oC.. one fan died and it still didn't budge.

However, it's not a replacement for a well cared for cooling system.

If you have a leak anywhere in the cooling system it comes out twice as fast with waterwetter, no substitute for top notch cooling system.

I have 4 bottles of Water Wetter for sale in the TVR parts classified. New and seals unbroken - they are just surplus to our (race) requirements and so a bit cheaper than full retail price.

Cheers

I used to use it in my Griff, when I got the Griff I had all the hoses changed and the system flushed through and then used Water wetter, in four and a half years, many trips to Le Mans and Spain had no cooling issues at all smile

Used it in my Chimaeras, reduced temperatures by 5-10C.

Provided its not overheating, what are the benefits to cooler running?

Not sure on the day-day driving, we only go flat out, lol! But it kept the temp at around 180F which is around the optimum for power. This even when I drive the car for 1.5 hours non stop last year at Snett!

I agree with the comments that you need to have a good coolant system in place, but we generally run water with water wetter, and it gets replaced at least yearly (which equates to about 6 hours or so of running, but we over maintain the car lol)

Question.

Is the coolant (water with the wetter) running colder because it's thermal capacity to remove heat is reduced and therefore the engine actually running hotter. I'm just trying to understand how the cooling system runs colder if it is removing the same amount of heat from the hot part of the system ( the engine) without the volume of the system being increased or the sice of the cooler being increased.

Any thoughts

It decreases the amount of water vapour (bubbles) that stick on the rad therefore increases the surface area in which to cool the engine down.

If you type water wetter on u tube you, you will see an explaination.

If I remember correctly it's claims are only with no antifreeze in the cooling system ?
