Speaking to a mate the other day we got chatting about how many people you think you've spoken to in your life.......

Got me thinking about it really

So in your lifetime how many individual people do you think you

a) Speak to - everything from a one off "cheers" to meaningful daily conversations

b) Meet - ie: actually be introduced to in person, know their name etc - even if just for a one off event or something.

I figure that on average I probably speak to 5 - 10 "new" people every day, but that only gives 3650 new people every year, plus friends and family who you speak to regularly over a 70 year period only gives about a quarter of a million people.... which doesn't sound like many.....

5-10 NEW ON AVERAGE?

Surely it's due to your job. I'm a freelance but I often have "steady" customers.
2 a day new ones would be more accurate for me.

Are you a cashier by any chance? hehe

I wasn't sure if that was too high or not!

No - not a cashier but do deal with new business or different customers on a daily basis, plus various other people who i've not spoken to before... but thinking about it maybe 5-10 is a bit too high.

hmmm maybe 2 - 5 would be more accurate. Which reduces the total to an even lower number.

Oh and Gary - yeah you're right we probably do.

Couldn't even begin to guess. Working in a vets for 18 years it's going to be a huge number! and I have a large family and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.

Thats what I thought as well but when you actually start to think about it - the numbers aren't that big.....

How many people might you see in the vets in one day? 30? even 50? and assuming you work for say 300 days a year that only 15000 per year or 270000 over the 18 years you've been there.

And thats assuming that they are all unique new customers - which I assume they're not.

And even with a huge family, lots of friends and acquaintances, you can't really be looking at more than a 1000 people?

So even being generous with the figures you're looking at less than 300,000 people.

Which isn't that many considering 490,000 babies are supposedly born every day.....

I just thought it made for some interesting thinking.... maybe I need to get out more.

I think around about 12 so far, I'm only 26 so plenty of time to make up the numbers yet.

To be honest I could begin to guess it'd just take a bit of time and being as I have just had one of those 490,000 babies not likely to find that smile. Whilst we do not see all new clients and plenty of regulars there will always be registered clients you won't have seen before, plus their family and friends (which is common in a vets people arrive in groups!) and new clients, dammit now I'm thinking about how I meet people!!
