In light of the recent MN thread (I have missed the original thread and only have a post about some PH members posting jokes or unfunny comments in a serious thread to go by as anindication of what actually went on) and the recent public statement by our beloved PM, how those who have signed facebook's Raul Moat support page are basically idiots and how it is wrong, blah blah blah.

I am seriously getting sick of people who tell me or others what they should say or even think.
I personally don't support either the MN invasion comments nor Raul moat, but if someone does, they are free to do so. Who the fk am I or anyone else to tell them who they should show sympathy to?

but it is offensive you say? Well fk! welcome to the real world. I bet I can find at least 3 offensive instances to me personally by just reading the threads ont he first page of the lounge section, or even the BBC, and even more subjects that I do not agree with. I deal with it by just. closing the page and moving on. I suspect most of us do the same.

Similarly, if someone now reads this thread where I have voiced my opinion on the word wide web and thinks I am a c*ck and tells me so. I don't expect Garlick, or any other moderator coming in here shielding me from someone else's opinion. At this rate having an opinion that is not approved by the government will be illegal!

What exactly is your point here? Who is repressing you?
No point really. It's rant, about being told how to feel, think and who to sympathise with.

There are things that I have recently read on PH that I find deeply offensive. I just ignore them. Though I have to say some of things have made me question why I would bother to come into the non-car bits of this forum. I try to steer clear of the things I find difficult.
If someone slates me for my opinion so be it.

On the other hand, say your nipper was hit by a random cricket ball & ended up in ITU.

You felt the need to post, say on a forum somewhere to express your grief & worry.

Then some wide-boys arrived & started making jokes about the Ashes & the like.

Would you want someone (say mods), to censure them & possible remove the posts?

You may have absolutely no intention of ever doing something like that, not have kids etc.

But you can see the point?

Next you'll be telling us that strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. And that Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

I see your point completely and have already ran a hypothetical scenario such as this through my head. maybe I am just thick skinned or thick skulled idiot, but seriously, even drawing a parralel a bit closer to hom and say my OH has been a victim of a sexual attack, and somedoy was making jokes about, I don't know OXO tower, it's a world wide forum, i chose to share my grief/anger with and I would just think that the people posting are dheads. Of course, if it was the policeman or the MP I have written to about the above case, started making jokes about the OXO tower, then I would be justifiably upset.

P.S. loving the MN. thanks for bringing that site to my attention.
There is a thread about a wk mitten... I kid you not! Some mum has knitted a wk mitten to focus and control the stains and would regularly wash it and then put it on his bed!

Actually isee, no one is telling what you think or say, just requesting that you don't post it on certain forums.

And yes, that is a goodun'smile

Sorry Coco (I am aware I was perhaps not the most supportive of posters on your thread) but what with all the angst on here today that made me laugh!

Fair enough, that's more to do with tact imho, and as numb and selfish as I am, i can work out where my view would antagonise someone unnecessarily and would refrain from posting there.

but the PM expressing how appaled he is at thousands of facebook supporters of that murderer, and stating that he will speak to FB creators about it. My response would be something like: "what the fk? and you are?"

I can pm it if you want, but don't want to risk a banhammer in light of the recent ststorm relating to this website.

But the public over there is mental... I have just offered a woman some advise about her husband's behaviour. It was free of swearword, tactfully worded and actually very sincere. And I am already being called names and am being baited by posts with insinuations about the size of my manhood, the state of my mental health etc etc.

If you are reading this Garlick, you have nothing to worry about, I am not presenting PH on there nor am I rising to the baits.

There is some trolling over there, equal or worse than here I'd say. But that's women shrivelled by bitterness for ya wink

I missed the threads wasn’t involved and have no idea what went on.

What does concern me is degree of collaboration between two separate entities, Pistonheads and MumsNet.

When I agreed to be a member of Pistonheads I expected any data they collect about me to remain confidential and be subject to the Data Protection Act. If I join any other site then I expect them to behave in a similar fashion.

Whilst some people seem to have made their identity obvious by posting on PH, boasting what they said, I get the impression that there may have been some degree of figuring out identities by the combined Mods of the two forums.

Did this amount to divulging and comparing users IP addresses for example, or any data subject to the Data Protection Act?

Whilst PH has a responsibility to protect its name, I’m uneasy about any site restricting freedom of speech, especially if the power of one site is intimidating the other.

Plenty of sites have agendas and opinions that many PH’ers find odorous. The Eco-Mentalist lobby is more powerful than ever and this looks likely to increase. If we orchestrated resistance to anti car legislation here and this produced howls of protests from Green Mods on other sites, would our details be given up?

I could imagine a situation where a few of the self appointed guardians of Gaia feel justified in hunting down Pistonheads members in the same criminal way that they attack people for connection to Animal research, Abortion clinics or anything else they deem wrong.

Whilst some of our members may have been out of line this time and deserving of the wrath of the PH Mods (and it sounds like they were), the principle of protecting free speech still holds. Difficult as it is, people (Mods included) should still protect that principle even when they disagree with what has been said.
