Just arrived home from work to find a car parked on my driveway. The 'drive' is actually a gravelled parking area adjacent to my house, however, I think it's quite clearly private property & whoever owns the car is taking the mick.

I have blocked them in for the moment:

But what should or can I do? I am due to go out for the evening in under an hour. If they don't turn up before them I feel maybe I should just leave them blocked in & then wait for them to turn up tomorrow. I'm a little concerned though that idiots like that may damage my car out of spite, my 996 is my pride & joy & I would hate anything to happen to it.

I am also parked on the white line that goes across the front of my parking area, I take it I won't get ticketed if I leave my car there.

I'm hoping they turn up before I go out, and will surely figure out the car blocking them in belongs to this house. But if they don't, should I leave a note with my phone number on? Or just move my car & let them get out whenever they do return?

Cheeky fkers!!

I expect the usual PH 'let the tyres down' etc, but they will know where I live & what car is mine, so I'm not up for retribution, just wondering if (a) I could get them traced & told to move (will the police care?) or (b) let them suffer the inconvenience of being stuck until such time as I want to move my own car, which will now be tomorrow morning.

A simple note first of all. If it happens again, get back to us and we'll give you the 'slash the tyres' advice wink

Seriously, it's annoying, but some people are monumentally stupid and it could be a mistake smile

I wouldn't block it in.

What have you to gain? The satisfaction of them coming and asking to be let out?

What have you to lose? One extreme, they could try and get out, scraping your car? At the other extreme it could be a wannabe Kenneth Noye.

Life is too short.

They drive a yellow megane, so there is a possibility the driver is female. (could explain alot) But seriously just leave a note and wait for an apology!

haha, that again.

best (sensible) bet is to put a polite notice on the windscreen telling them that they have parked in your drive and that it has inconvenienced you and to please not do it again. anything else could end up in reprisals.

otherwise its firebomb/tyre slashing/dragging into the street type stuff.

these people are soo thick its unreal.

I wouldn't go out and leave your car there just in case they damage it trying to get out or simply out of spite.

I would leave a note on the windscreen, pointing out it is a private driveway and for them not to park there again. If they do, then get the police involved.

Last thing you want is to be worried about your car getting damaged now or anytime in the future.

Nice car BTW.

They'll hopefully realise it was a mistake to park there. If they are free to just drive off then they might decide to park there again, or somewhere else equally as annoying.

I don't know what to suggest - there's many things you could do, some less sever than the others perhaps.

Thanks for the replies, we have a rather boring conclusion now, so please feel free to start with the more PH advice of dog st door handles & the like, so I'm armed for next time.

Chap came to the door, very apologetic, apparently given the wrong address & realised & was late for an appointment. Ah well, drama over. He claims it's his girlfriend's car rofl If it's his, he has a lot of explaining to do about the flower stickers, although this is Brighton...

FLG you need some signs up. Could be that person mistook (wilfully, I accept) your drive for "public" space.

Stuff like "PRIVATE PROPERTY. NO PARKING. CLAMPING IN OPERATION - RELEASE FEE £150. ACCESS REQUIRED 24 HOURS" etc.

Someone could still be a right cxnt and park there but you can legitimately cause them grief. As it is they can claim ignorance (even if it isn't, really).

This time about all you can do is leave a note saying that they are parked on private property and could they please not do so again...
