Salute,

The Mrs is after a new car and we've spotted a nice MR2 (last shape) with a Semi (fnarrfnarr) Auto box.

She was looking at autos because of commute etc reasons.

We've got a 'fun' car so we're not bothered about out and out performance, she would like a softtop, practicality is not important but fuel economy is...ish.

Has anyone got one and can anyone think of a reason not to get one.

Until tonight, I didn't even know they did them, and reviews are a little thin on the ground.

So if there is anyone with direct experience, I'd appreciate the advice.

And before anyone asks, no, MX-5s are not an option...auto or not.

Many thanks
Davidoff

Ive had mr2 roadsters with both manual and semi auto boxes, and while im not a fan of these gearboxes it kind of works on the mr2, the shift is reletively speedy and if your cunning with the throttle you can build the revs while in gear then floor it for a decent getaway! now there will be alot of people who will tell you its crap blah blah blah, my suggestion is ignore them and buy what you want not what others suggest. go and drive one and draw your own conclusions, the only downside is they arent the cheapest box to fix when/if they go wrong.also you may have heard the horror stories about the pre cats breaking up and wrecking the engine, lets be honest if we all listened to everyones horror stories nobody would dare buy anything through fear of it blowing up etc

Thanks for the info.

Like I say, it'll be her commute car for driving from Lancaster to Ormskirk down the M6. She wants something that will be easy to drive i.e. auto but is also a bit of fun.

I think we'll sort out a test drive this weekend. I'll let you know how we get on.
