Yesterday morning I was turning right on the A58 north of Leeds I was stationary in a white lined demarcation box there was heavy traffic coming towards and no gaps to turn. About a ¼ mile ahead I see the blue lights of a Police car steaming up the central reservation.
The police car is getting closer I’m thinking he’ll pull in soon , he’s getting closer, I’m think st has he seen me so I give a quick flash of my lights. The cars he is over taking slow leaving just enough gap for him to swerve round me he waves as he passes.
I admit I was stting myself as it did seem he hadn’t seen me.

I had one overtake on a blind bend off a bad bridge near me, he will have known the road as it was one of the local traffic cars and to be honest was inexcusable driving for anyone no matter what the circumstances, he didn't even have blues on.

What compounded the error was the fact there is and he will have known there is a straight coming up about 15 seconds later which allows you to overtake as many cars as you like because it's half a mile long, I know because I use it every morning.

The sheepish thankyou wave as he managed to pull back in thanks to my almost emergency stop said it all. One face memorised for the future incase I get pulled by him having made an error of my own.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHHAHA, I needed a good laugh thanks.

I pass 2 police stations on the way to work every day and you'd be suprised by the number of times they nearly hit things responding to a call out. Oddly from what I have seen it tends to be bikers at lights that get the closest calls with them, think it might be somthing to do the helmet making it harder for them to see/hear the police car aproaching.

Had one at the A4/Earls Court Road junction last night.

Waiting to turn into Earl's Court Road, two lanes go straight ahead into Kensington, three lanes filter right into ECR.

One of the filter lanes is shut due to roadworks. Police car pulls up to the two lines of traffic waiting to filter right, then switches on blues and two, forces their way through the two rows of traffic waiting to go straight on, then cuts across the three lanes of filter traffic into ECR, switches blues and twos off and continues along in the slow miving traffic normally.

Of course, it 'could' have been a shout that was subsiquently cancelled seconds later, but to Joe Public (and me) it just looked like they couldn't be arsed to wait for the signals to change.

On a regular basis I see local police cars (astra) driving at 40mph in a 30mph zone, on a high risk road (car on both sides, tree lined, narrow road but straight, schools nearby). You know what I do...complain. Complain to my local community beat officer and write to the Chief Constable.

It is completely unacceptable behaviour and we pay for the accidents, er..... well we pay for everything. They are public servants, but we need to remind them every now and again. Don’t be wary, get on and complain.

Sure some of them make mistakes, but the Traffic units themselves are extremely well trained, and probaly much better drivers than joe public. A near miss i may have been, but if he then arrived on the scene 5 minutes, or even 30 seconds too late, alot can be lost.

to be fair, once you flashed him, he probably figured you know he is there and why not use all of the available room you have left him.

A couple of my friends are police officers... I'm shocked at how, 'un-professional' they are.. and how they're just a bunch of guys in their 20's, behaving like every other guy their age.. except that they're police officers, so should really behave differently, but they don't ...

I'm not moaning about his action as such as I apprieate (hope) it was an emergancy he was heading for. It was just quiet scary not knowing if he had seen me and what action he was going to take. The last thing I wanted to do was try move but move in to the path he was going to take.
Any way nothing happened apart from my blood pressure going mental.

Why the roll-eyes?

Do you not accept that in ANY profession or group, there is a small amount whose standards are below grade?

There are bad cyclists, doesn't mean all cyclists are bad.
There are bad drivers, doesn't mean all drivers are bad.
There are bad parents, doesn't mean all parents are bad.

Ad infinitum.

Threads pop up all the time moaning about the 'bad' sector of something or another.

Mate of mine was broken down on a hard shoulder/wide hatched section and was smashed into by a brand new traffic car being driven at speed, totalling both cars. He had broken down after a sweeping bend on an A-road, but one of the coppers tried to blame it on him, because of his car positioning despite there being nothing he could do, and he was right over to the left, off the carriageway. I actually think my mate ended up with some kind of conviction over it. If it was me, a long protracted legal battle would have ensued as there is no way I would have backed down and taken some of the blame. Should never drive too fast to stop, and if you can't see enough road to be able to deal with what is round a bend, you slow right down. Don't need roadcraft to tell you that.
