Single trip breakdown cover in Europe - how much???
Discussion
I have never driven in Europe before and am embarking on a trip to France next week.
Now, I don't know what I was expecting, but when I rang the RAC to get a quote for a week's breakdown cover they told me it would be £45! That is almost as much as the UK cover for a year!
Am I being a ripped off? Is there someone more competitive anyone would recommend?

I've just paid £150 for full AA cover for two weeks including £500 breakdown repair cover. Granted, I could have paid a third of that with Green Flag or through Admiral (my insurers) but I've heard good things about European AA cover and the breakdown repair cover is not offered by anyone else. I don't fancy the thouogh of bartering with a back street French mechanic with my distinct lack of foreign language skills. I'm going through five countries and 4000 miles in a 14 year old car with potential cooling issues so I'm happy to pay it for peace of mind...
Eurotunnel offer an excellent annual policy for £79.99 and cover cars up to 14 years old. If you travel in different cars on different dates that's fine so long as you tell them the right registration number before the trip.
Yes, you can buy their breakdown cover separately even if not travelling by Eurotunnel.

Sorry bout that, I had to pop out, I used them for Le Mans this year, Although I didn't have to make any claims, It was easy to set up and cover starts from when you leave your house until to return.
As I understand it, most other breakdown companies use these people anyway, so you are just cutting out the greedy AA/RAC etc.
But in truth I guess until someone has had to use them for and emergency then we will never know if they are any good.
