......collected a white 10 plate Range Rover Sport to deliver by road last week -I was convinced that other road users in London gave it more space than my Shogun, and moved out of the way on the M2. Oh, and I was wearing a white shirt.......any other owners concurr???

Serious answers not expected!!

If it was nightime, then the ridiculously bright xenon headlights that Range Rover now use would no doubt have blinded most people around you probably giving you more space.

Many moons ago I owned an Lancia Delta HT turbo in white with the full Martini racing stripes etc. I used to have no problems "making progress" when I wanted to.....until I decided to test a chip upgrade one evening along a dual carriageway and blasted past an unmarked plod who proceeded to release me of £30 and award me some points for my driving style. Which was nice of him.

My old white work sierra in the mid 90s did this. Drive down the M8 with the sunroof on tilt and the headlights on and the road would clear away in front of me since Strathclyde police used sierras then. Similar effect with the white 520 I owned about the same time.

Conversely I notice some forces now have no bonnet markings on their non-white vehicles which makes them extree-stealthy when coming up behind you.

Indeed. I started to get slightly concerned when a white Volvo estate came hooning up behind me the other day. Turned out it was just an impatient old boy!

LOL wink Same with my dad's white XR4x4 in the 90's. Main beam during the day made the M25 a much easier job!

I had a XR4X4 same thing happened to me, Motorway traffic parted in front of it.
I got pulled over by the same model with two policemen in on the M6.
Their first words were 'Is this your Mum's car?'
How rude!

Dear melv,

no you didn't imagine it. I am also a fully paid up member of the "it happened to me" club.

In the late '70s I had a white Escort van (DJ double-decks that was me) which was a mighty popular peeler purveyor at the time. The effect I noticed howver was on single carriageways when following another vehicle that said vehicle would slow down. Annoying as 1100cc of low compression (no) power made overtaking a lengthy task,

regards,
Jet

EFS - payed!

On the other hand, I will never forget the idiot on the M6, in a red orion with blue strobes in his headlights, trying to bully everyone out the way. I saw about two people fall for it.

I used to have a white rover 220gti. It is amazing how many people couldnt tell the difference between a rover 800 (that surrey police used at the time) and a 200 smile Once had someone nearly bin their car trying to get out of my way on the hogsback, they swerved left really hard when i looked in the mirror she was having an almighty tankslapper.

My brother has an octavia vrs and that had the same effect until the plod stopped using them round here

I have sometimes noticed this is my Volvo V70.

I often find cars in front will suddenly start doing the speed limit and middle lane morons tend to move over where they wouldn't have done previously.

It's not even a white one!

20 odd years ago I borrowed a white Senator to collect a car from the midlands,I was amazed at the swift progress we made until the penny dropped! The same effect occurred when I rode my white--faired Yamaha wearing a black jacket and white helmet.
