I know the obvious answer is 2011, but I know with Porsche for example that the 2011 model would actually come out late 2010 after the summer factory shutdown.

I've seen a few things online but they seem to conflict.

Will there be a S-Line luxury model?

It'd be the S3 I'm interested in, which I guess also raises the question does anyone know if it will be launched at the same time or later and if so by how much?

Didn't the A3 ~just get new headlights?

I understand why your asking though, had I got the money for a S3 I'd be reluctant to spend that sort of money on a shape thats been around that long, starting to feel a little outdated.

I cant beleive they are STILL selling the A3, it's been out for ages now, I dont think I could buy a car for that much money thats fundamentally the same as the ones for £5k in Autotrader..

Surely its new model time now now constant subtle refreshes?

Yeah the current ones are certainly evolution rather than revolution, but I believe the next one is totally new vs. a few bits from the VAG parts bin.

The thing is I do like the current shape, but as I don't need to change any time soon I figure it makes sense to wait and see the new one.

My nearest are either ignorant or liars "No new model due" when I asked a couple of months ago.

Where you will no doubt be fed peeled grapes by vestal virgins and given kopi lewak coffee while your car is valeted by Paul Dalton.

I dont know the release date but the S3 wont be launched at the same time if the last 2 generations are anything to go by, usually 12-18 months after initial launch.

Ignorant question, but does that mean there won't be an S3 during that period, or that if you want an S3 it will be the current shape/model?

The former, when the new shape A3 is launched they will also stop production of the current shape S3, there may be a few months overlap and a number unsold in storage or at dealers, but there will be no factory orders.

Looking into it a little more it seems the current shape A3 was launched in 2003 and the S3 in 2006, a much bigger gap than i thought. The previous generation the A3 was launched in 1996 and the S3 1999 so again a similar gap of 3 years. Maybe we wont see the new S3 until 2013/2014.

The new Golf/'Rocco R will do well in this period if that does happen, after driving a mk6 Golf I reckon it's deffo worth a look in the R guise.

I wonder how big the waiting list would be for the new S3, if there is any at all.

Christ almighty, people take the piss out of BMW for a niche too far, but Audi are doing an A3 saloon? What is the point of that then? So you'll be able to buy an A3 saloon, an A4 saloon and an A5 saloon, all pretty much the same size, looking exaclty the same, driving just as underwhelmingly, and just being tarted up V Dubs in drag.

Quite ironic everyone quote imagine in relation to Audis, when it seems imagination is the one thing Audi themselves completely lack.

Tbh I agree and was a little surprised and depressed when I saw the saloon.

Problem is, if you're interested in a good quality well specced, nicely put together quick 3 door hatch there isn't too much out there beyond VAG and BMW.
