Anyone out there able to help? I am looking at viewing a Tiger tomorrow - a friend says that it is unusual as it has the engine at the back? Has anyone heard of similar? The link to the car is http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1794142.htm

My budget is limited, so would welcome comments before I part with my hard earned cash. Thanks

I was going to say he'd need some advice from some previously exprienced owners. Anyone know Sigfreid & Roy's number is?

Where's that Alan Partridge bit where he looks in the mirror and tells himself he's a Tiger. Rarrrhhhhh

Seriously, the Astoin club invited the Sunbeam Tigers to display at our silvertsone race day in may. One was doing burn outs and handbrake tuens in the infield. Nobody was watching, he just wanted to do them. Great!

That was Gareth Cheeseman, not Alan Partridge. I couldn't let that pass smile

Not heard of a mid/rear engine'd Tiger before. If it's unique then it was probably a one off made by the factory to see if a mid engined car was feasible, and as it's still unique you might want to ask yourself why more weren't made....

Best place for this thread would be in the kit car section though.

I would have said that the engine's pretty much in the middle...

Or did you mean one of these?

No, look at the car in the ad link. This is no normal Tiger.

I thought you meant a real tiger!

The best format for these lightweight cars is the one caterham have been doing for years. It works. And with an abundance of engine choices and good 'copy' chassis around you can pretty much do whatever suits you.

These mid engined things are a bit of a 'Look at us, we've moved forward' stunt.

They haven't and it won't work.

I would say the engines so far back in a normal tiger it's about right for weight distribution.

What you've got there is a mutant with too much rear bias bearing in mind your arse is normally right over the rear axle in any caterfield, but ive not seen it go so keep an open mind - but?????

Gosh, doesn't look like there is much weight over the front axle.

It's a one-off that was built by its first owner around the components of a Mk1 MR2. It's rather similar in layout/concept to the Sylva Mojo and Riot, both of which are rightly held in high esteem. I drove the car very briefly a long time ago (I wrote the magazine feature mentioned in the advert) and remember it handling well. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll dig out the issue it was in.
