£54.85 is the Maximum charge set by VOSA.

Some places do it for much cheaper, such as.. "Service & MOT for £79" or whatever.

if you're in south east cant recommend these guys enough used them last 3 years normally £35ish

http://www.justmots.eu/

you should be able to get it for that price wherever you go as people always have an offer on + if you are in the aa etc you normally get discount.

£55 ?!? eek

I usually pay ~£35-40 MAX.

Last couple of times we've used Kwik-Fit (yes I know!) for £35 if you book and pay online, they are fine as long as your tyres and zaust are prefect or they'll look for some extra business but otherwise fine.

I've had VW Match Kwik-Fit under their price match guarantee, but only after the threat of taking my service and air-con recharge which I was having done at the same time elsewhere.

I wouldn't expect to pay less than £35 but I deffo wouldn't be paying for than £45!!

I will second these folks, used them for the first time this year at their branch in Crayford (was working down that way for a week).

Was my daily workhorse Mondeo (2.0l 98-plate, 130K miles) and it passed with just an an advisory that the ns CV gaiter looked worn but wasn't yet split.. Waited while they carried out the test and the guy shouted to me that a brake light bulb had gone - must have blown in the last 24hrs as I carried out a brief pre-MOT check on the basics before it went in.

They replaced it for me free of charge and it only cost £28 for the test as I'd booked online a week previously.

Recommended.

Yeah, I've used my local one about ten times now, on the VX, the Golf and a few other cars. No issues so far and I've never paid more than £27 for an MOT.

It actually depends what VOSA say on the MOT Fail Sheet.

Different failures have different options.

Cheap MOT is IMO a risky thing to go looking for. Yes Sir, your MOT was only £25 but we found all sorts of things that needed fixing....

We charge £35 normally, £30 to regulars who bring lots of cars in and of course free retest.

I think around £6 goes to the Ministry of Transportsmile

Nice little earner eh???
It can be, but don't forget to account for the 20k worth of gear you'll need, and the constant upgrades and equipment servicing, oh and the bloke to actually test them, and of course the building to put all of that in.... not quite such a great earner after you take that lot out wink

But if you meant the Ministry, then yes they do quite well out of it!
