I can't seem to get my head around this 'matt' effect paintwork. Popped into Sytner BMW Nottingham this afternoon to have a mooch around the showroom, and there in the corner was a brand new E92 M3 with this matt grey paint - WTF!! BMW class the paint as a 'individual' option at approx £1800 extra!!!! The car also had fingerprints all over the bonnet and on the doors and tbh looked a pile of scensoredt. I have seen photo's of cars which have this matt effect paint and thought it not tooooo bad, but up close it looks bl00dy awfull. Sorry waste of a nice motor imo. Just thought i would share my views biggrin

Isn't that grey of the M3 a particular new version of the M3? I'm sure i read that somewhere recently. I actually don't mind that colour on that car too much, but pretty much any other colour in that finish does nothing for me.

It may of been a special edition as it had the csl style wheels and was £62k - obviously the price was hiked up with extra's like for example this 'individual' option paint at £1800. A shame really because the E92 M3 has really grown on me, but this matt paint made it look a complete shambles - almost laughable tbh. Ford have done the same with the paint on the RS 500 - i believe these are all sold out, so there must be a demand for this 'unfinished' look. Personally i can't see it being around for long, and those that choose these colours will pay dearly in a year or two. Obviously imo.

Matt point really suits some cars. Somebody on here has a matt black Ford Capri that looks gorgeous.
IMHO.

On the right car it looks great, however I agree looks pants on most. (I am in no way defending the matt black paint on one of my cars laugh)

I think all cars should only come in silver! that way all that choice cant upset/confuse people as there will be no other option!

Mine doesn't get covered in fingerprints though?
I also think it depends entirely on the car as to whether it looks good or not.

I've seen the matt grey m3's. I quite like them. Something a bit different.

As for the fingerprints - sure gloss paint gets finger marks too.

Very hard to keep looking good. Rain makes it look bad, fingerprints makes it look bad, road muck makes it look bad the list is endless. On the right car, with a good finish and kept very clean it looks great. Most cars look a bit silly really painted matte.

Satin is a lot better but not great either.

And BMW in Swindon has a Dakar yellow new M3 and it looks superb.

Costs a fortune in sandpaper, though...

I've got a half matt black car. It wasn't deliberate, I just did a st job spraying it and then never bothered to flatten it back.

Good paint is nice, but so is not having to worry about stonechips and scratches!

Really? I dont get any watermarks on mine after its rained, no marks from fingerprints either.
I dont even have to dry it after washing it.
Dirt from the road yes, but that happens with any car.

Nothing wrong with camping. Pink is high visibility, so, be safe be seen.

How about the edit?
