I have a D700/MB-D10 Battery Grip with a 24-70 fitted, 70-200, 85mm and a few odds and ends in a Lowepro Flipside 300 backpack. It's snug but was the smallest I could get to fit the above.

Any reason you didn't opt for the slingshot version?

Many thanks

Would recommend you take a look at the Crumpler Muffin Tops if you're wanting to carry just the D300 and lens. I've a small one which takes my D300 and 17-55mm (will accommodate 70-200mm but not whilst on the body) but they do slightly longer ones that would swallow the D300 with your telephoto attached.

I think the small one I have is the 3000 and the one you might need would be the 5500 (but do check first).

They are great bags. Well padded, very comfortable and feel built to last a life time.

ThinkTank Digital Holster 50 - expandable so will also accommodate a teleconverter as well.

Comfortably fits my D3 + 70-200 + 1.7 TC, and there's a side pouch for lens caps / battery.

For hands-free carrying they also do a strap system which goes around your shoulders and the holster sits in front on you resting on your chest, so easy to get at the camera without dropping stuff.

Prefer the twin strap rucksac stlye - more secure for mountain walking and cooler in the heat. Leaves the hands free and doesn't slide around. Yep you have to take it off to get at the camera but that's no hardship.

I use a Lowepro Toploader 75 Pro for my D300 + Sigma 20-200 f2.8 (similar size to the Nikon I think). Works well - well protected, and if I need to take a wide angle as well I can just clip it on the side. Good as a day bag, festivals, events etc, wouldn't use it for longer than that. Here http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-lowepro-toploa....

If I'm out longer than a day or need to carry a little more I use my trusty Lowepro Rover backpac - bit old now, but does the trick. Have a Crumpler too but find myself going back to the Rover more often than not.
