What are my rights - used car purchase.
Discussion
Not sure where you stand legally, but it could come down to how they answered the question. What I mean is that when you asked, the V5 would have said 3 previous owners on it, with the 4th being the owner listed at the time. Now you are the owner, it has had 4 previous.
If that makes sense?

Thanks for the one or two sensible replies.
Yes, to me the number of owners makes a difference, as I said I change my cars a lot so being able to easily sell a car on helps. I have several new cars but buying certain cars new, keeping them for 6 months before selling them is just an easy way to lose alot of money. Simples!
Aside from the unfunny advert response, I still fail to see why.Yes, to me the number of owners makes a difference, as I said I change my cars a lot so being able to easily sell a car on helps. Example
Car A has 5 previous owners, excellent condition, full service history
Car B has 3 previous owners, excellent condition, full service history
Why would the amount of owners make a difference? What if one of the owners on car B was a complete tool and ragged the engine from cold? Would that make it a better car because less people have had it?

Its irrelevant what PH thinks - it all depends on what you were told when you bought it and what you asked
either you can ask for some money back if it was not a breach of contract that renders the contract void or you can try to totally void the contract and reject the car/get your money back.
it will be misdescribed under the sale of goods act 1979
there are no hard and fast rules as to how long you have to take action.

I don't see why people are giving the OP a hard time?
He was told it had 3 owners, it had 4.
I would understand if it adversely effected the car itself, as in he was told it had power steering and it did not etc, this is just a very small clerical thing which IMO makes very little difference. He was told it had 3 owners, it had 4.
My current runabout has had 6 owners, is 12 years old and was immaculate before I got my hands on it, I saw a few cars that had less owners and newer that were horrific by comparison.

I know you don't buy an R8 and run it for six months if you're overly concerned about depreciation but you take the point.
Why does # of owners make a difference? - Because the used car market says so.
If a car has had a large number of owners in a short space of time then it gives the impression its a bit of a hot potatoe - each previous owner discovering a potentially costly or dangerous problem and offloading it.
It may not matter to some but if you are not wanting to lose more cash come resale than normal depreciation offers then avoid a high number of owner car - its like that because it just is.
OP - if its just word of mouth from the dealership then legally you have a battle on your hands. Try speaking to them and see what they say....

the sort of bs that was perpetuated during the hey days of the rouge arthur daily used car traders. And the irony here, the op wishes to sell on after 6 months, of course he'll be saying its a fIf a car has had a large number of owners in a short space of time then it gives the impression its a bit of a hot potatoe - each previous owner discovering a potentially costly or dangerous problem and offloading it.

king peach mate whilst at the same time not expecting it to be a peach due to the number of previous owners.Sweri facepalm is old hat but I feel here it is apt. Its like that show in America where some rich yank kid gets bought an R8 and cries because it wasnt in the right colour and refuses it

Whils this might be true of a 4-year-old Vectra, I can't see it being the case with an R8. The first owner was probably a speculator, and then it's changed hands between people who wanted the latest flash plaything for a while. If it really is so upsetting just take the thing back. Not that hard is it!
Love the 'I have several new cars' and 'I change my cars every six months' bits. Must be the worst 'I've got loadsamoney' thread I've seen to date
Not a banker by any chance?

Slightly off topic, but I'm trying to sell a 10 year old fiat Seicento at the moment and have been amazed by the number of people asking how many owners it's had and whether it has full service history. If people care about those sort of things with a £900 Fiat then I can't imagine things being any better with a £60k R8.
Shame really as, like others have said, it is rarely an accurate reflection of the condition of a car.
