Well, we've tried carbon fibre, glass fibre, good old steel... I guess he decided it was time to branch out and try other materials.

Don't get your knickers in a knot.
This might not be such a bad idea. Sure, it's not en(d)-grain-ed in the motoring industry to use wood for a car's structure. Without forward thinking people like this, the car industry would be screwed. I think he has the look of the car nailed.

I am positive about it though, I think it might work,mate. But if he fails, he will look like a bit of a sap.

I don't think rust would be an issue, you might have to sand and varnish it every now and again.

Knot something I would want to do.
