So, you can have one car for the rest of your life, and you have a choice between 2...

One is a Ford Focus (looks like a basic spec car), but it has the current Aston Martin Vantage V8 engine, and running gear (suspension, brakes etc), that does justice to the engine (ignore the technical improbability that this could actually be engineered)....The other is...

an Aston Martin Vantage (in a pleasing colour combo), with a 3.0 V6 Duratec engine (no fiddling allowed).

Let's assume both are RWD.

Which do you have?

The focus with the v8. Anyway, it's been done before - although with a ford v8 boat anchor.

Anyone who pics the slow Aston over the Focus with the awesome noise needs chucking off the site.

It wouldn't be slow though really, it looks better, has a better interior and would use less fuel too so i'm sticking with my choice of the slower aston!
With about 200bhp less it would be relatively slow. Much slower than it would look, which to my mind would make it a poser car.
Also, it still looks like an Aston and people would want to twoc it so your insurance wouldn't be any cheaper.
As for costing less to run, you can get the Focus with an LPG tank in the boot as standard so that advantage is also lost too.

I'm not gonna try to argue with you on the looks front though.

I think I'd actually rather have a Focus with AMV8 running gear than a normal AMV8, just for the comedy value.

Have you not seen what people (Noble etc) can do with the 3.0 V6?

Assuming that the Focus has a decent driving position (I don't fit in the standard Focus), low CofG etc, and is the better to drive of the two, I'd have that. Looks are nice to have in a car, but primarily I'm interested in how a car drives. The anonymity would be rather nice too smile

Got to be the Focus. A sleeper or Q car any day. Particularly in these times of austerity. I know too many people with nice motor who had some scary moments....(guy with an RS4.....a gang broke in, took the keys and car...all caught on CCTV......another chap with a GT2.....woken up a gun point.....keys and car taken......he replaced it with a golf..!!)......sleeper all the way.

Focus. How silly would the AM be without the burble. Some tinny ford engine doesnt do that shape and design justice.

I'd rather have the car that looks like an Aston.

Focus.
As it happens, in a similar vein, I've spent a while drooling over this hearing-aid-beige 1979 Celica on ebay -
462 bhp V8
Way cooler than a Focus, even with an Aston underneath.

The Aston - it looks great but the engine and drive was disappointing, so with a smaller engine that does have those issues it might actually make it a better car IMO
