I'm considering changing my 2008 111R for a brand new "facelift" Supercharged Elise - I think the gain in power is around 22bhp ( 189 to 211 ) - my present car is fairly well equiped -

Questions

1. Is it worth it ? i.e hassle and around 20K
2. Has anyone done it or has experience of both models ? - I've yet to drive an SC

Any comments very welcome before I blow a load of cash !!!

Thanks

If is more power/speed you're after, surely its better value for money to supercharge the one you've got?

Is that £20k to swap? If so, I'd keep your cash in your pocket mate.

If you want an s/c you can always get it fitted to your car for about £4k, either by Lotus themselves or from places like Sinclaires (with even more power!).

Have a look on SELOC and do a search!

Personally i think you'd be mad to spend £20k upgrading yours, its done almost all its depreciation now and is a sound base for tuning.
As already said, speak to Sincs(now Essex Autosport)about upgrading yours or s/c'ing it: http://www.sinclairemotorsport.com/content/upgrade...
Even if you did the brakes and suspension on top you'd still be saving around £12k and would have a quicker, better sorted car-all the upgrades are removeable if you decide to sell at a later date too smile

Completely agree with everyone else. Get your own car charged, save a fortune and get a lot more power. Plus you keep a car you know.

The +20hp on an SC is, in my experience, "generous". Fine for spirited road use but no where near enough difference on track.

You're getting old! You start talking about your s/c and finish with how good the mpg is! hehe

I've had 3 Mk2 Elises;a 2003 111S, a 2006 111R did 45K miles in each and both great cars. Last December bought a 6 month old SC (09 plate)with 8K miles on the clock.

All I can say is that the SC is the best yet, a brilliant drive. Paid around £12K difference against trade in.

You can even get an official lotus S/C upgrade which bascially turns your car into a S/C if you want to keep things official, it's around 3k i think

I think the SC is a noticeably better drive because it gets around the infamous "switch" of power that the 111R has, and has a nice amount of power (the Elise always needed just a little more I thought). The SC is certainly the best Toyota engined Elise that I've driven, by a long way. However, I don't think it's worth £20k to upgrade from a 111R; that's a hell of a lot of money.
